The Grimoire of Elisia Grandore (must read)

đźś‚ The Grimoire of Elisia Grandore

The Infinity Witch Speaks

"I have lived a millennium. You are lucky to glimpse what I have seen."

I am Elisia Grandore. They call me the Infinity Witch these days, or something like that. This is my knowledge. Every rune, every law, every secret I have gleaned in a thousand years is contained herein. Read carefully. Misstep, and the consequences are yours.

Origins of Magic

Magic comes from the abundance of natural mana around the world, the same air mortals breathe. Every mortal is born with what Mother referred to as the Mana Receptacle, now known as the Mana Pool, which allows one to manifest natural energy internally and externally with varying mastery. Bloodlines affect the size of the mana pool. Larger pools allow one to generate above-average magic.

Remember this...

Although magic has a system, magic is free and can bend or shape into whatever the user feels or wants to express. Few have ever reached those heights of mastery except a select few.

II. Basic Magic: Enhancements

The most basic magic is Enhancements, which allows people to increase their physical capabilities.

III. The Five Natural Elements

Water

Fire

Wind

Earth

Lightning

The five natural Elements are the foundation of all structured magic.

A mortal may wield only one of these elements naturally, determined by affinity at birth. No training is required for this initial bond — the element answers instinctively.

Some, considered gifted, may learn to tap into two elements, but only after years of formal training, discipline, and repeated failure.

To command all five elements is an extreme rarity, demanding decades of refinement. Even then, each generation may produce only one such exception… if any at all.

IV. Specializers and Arts

These exceptions are not normal mortals.

They are known as Specializers.

Specializers stand at the highest tier of magic. Unlike ordinary practitioners, they push their chosen domain beyond its natural limits. Across generations, they create entirely new forms of magic — techniques refined so deeply they are no longer mere spells.

These are called Arts.

However — and remember this well — power demands a price.

A Specializer is bound to their Art.

They cannot freely wield other systems of magic outside their specialization.

Their mastery is absolute, but narrow. Where others may dabble, they transcend — yet remain confined to their chosen expression.

Examples of such blood-bound Arts include:

Blood Arts, unique to Vampires

Nature Arts, exclusive to Elves

Crystal Arts, wielded only by the Ragga clan

These are merely a few. Naming them all would take another century, and I am not that bored.

Even within these races and clans, only a select few can awaken such Arts at all.

There also exists a rarer path:

Special Martial Arts

A discipline where mana is not cast outward, but woven directly into physical combat.

The body becomes the spell. Strength, speed, and technique merge into something capable of challenging Specializers outright.

Lastly, there are Elemental Specializers — rarer still.

These individuals are born with a monstrous affinity for a single element of the basic five. Through relentless trial and error, they reach depths of mastery that rival multi-disciplinary Specializers, standing on equal footing through sheer elemental supremacy alone.

Depth over breadth. Always.

V. Mana Surge

Mana Surge,

Specializers are the ones most likely to enter this state, though it is not exclusive to them. With enough pressure, clarity, or resolve, anyone can reach it.

During Mana Surge, mana output becomes refined—compressed, sharpened. It no longer spills outward recklessly, but clings to the body, reinforcing it. Flesh hardens, movements grow precise, and the user's overall capabilities rise far beyond their normal limits. In battle, this refinement can function as natural armor.

That is how scholars describe it in modern times.

In reality, Mana Surge is nothing more — and nothing less — than an extension of one's will made manifest.

Signs of one who has entered this state:

The eyes shift, taking on the color of the user's mana output.

Mana ceases to surge outward. Instead, it merges with the body itself, shimmering close to the skin with a darker, denser glow.

VI. Magical Tools and Chants

On Magical Tools

Humans, lacking the longevity or natural sensitivity of other races, devised magical tools to compensate.

These tools store spells and techniques, activated through the user's mana pool. They are efficient. Convenient. And limited.

Magic cast through a secondary vessel will always fall short of magic conjured directly by its wielder. The intent is diluted. The resonance imperfect.

Overreliance on such tools carries a cost. Prolonged use places immense strain on the body, and when the mana burden exceeds what the flesh can endure, collapse—or worse—is inevitable.

Tools are crutches. Useful ones. But crutches nonetheless.

On Chants

Every spell begins with a chant.

Chants exist to guide that change—shaping mana into a stable form.

Long chants are used for complex or high-level spells.

Short chants suffice for simpler techniques.

Unchanted spells are possible, but they will never reach their full potential without absolute mastery.

Words are not magic.

They are scaffolding.

Ancient tongue chants cannot be learned through study, nor attained through training—no matter how long one persists. This form of magic is bestowed only upon those deemed worthy by magic itself.

Among witches, only a rare few have ever reached such a state.

Naturally, I was one of them.

VII. The Legendary Five Soul Weapons

The Legendary Five Soul Weapons.

Though their origins remain blank, these five weapons are known to possess souls of their own. Each carries a distinct personality and grants techniques that cannot be performed by anyone other than its chosen wielder.

The Gluttonous Blade — Betzalel.

Grants the wielder the unique ability to absorb magical attacks. No one has survived the blade's hunger long enough to witness its full potential.

The Celestial Cleavers — Starlite.

Grants the wielder the unique ability to read signs and wield the ancient art of the stars.

The Time-Shifting Staff — Kala.

Grants the wielder the ability to manipulate time for ten seconds. Time may be stopped or rewound, but events that have not yet occurred cannot be altered… at least, that is what I believe.

The Spear of Destiny — Ilembe.

Probably the most broken of them all. It is said to alter the wielder's fate, though there are too many unknown variables to reach a conclusion.

The Fifth Weapon.

Its existence is confirmed, but its identity remains unknown. Mother has only ever referred to it as belonging to the Godmother of Witches — the Witch of Beginnings.

Some personal wisdom from yours truly.

As long as you have a mana pool…

anything is possible.

And once you have seen this…

there is no unseeing it.

You lucky bastard.
