Chapter 12
"We're definitely helping him, right?" Junior said.
Cassian nodded. Like it was obvious. Like they were deciding whether to go backpacking through a forest, not stepping into the middle of a conspiracy that had already killed people.
Christian stared at them.
"You can't," he said.
"Can't?" Cassian raised an eyebrow.
"You don't know what you're getting into."
"Sure we do," Junior said. "Governor's dirty. You tried to expose him. He sent people after you."
"Sounds pretty simple to me," Cassian said.
"People could die," Christian said.
"First thing," Cassian said. "We get your car back."
Christian shook his head. "Bridge. They might be waiting."
"Might be," Junior said. "Or might not."
Cassian pulled onto the highway.
"Either way, you need it."
[Drive to bridge]
The car was still there.
Cassian slowed. Scanned the area.
"Looks clear," Junior said.
Christian gets out, approaches his car
2 bikers were watching, brief scuffle, Cassian & Junior handle it quickly
"This it?" Cassian asked parking right outide the apartment
Christian nodded.
They took the stairs. Fourth floor.
The door was locked.
Cassian pulled on the door really hard and the hinges came off
Emdy was gone. Of course he was.
But the photos were still there.
Four faces on the wall. Three crossed out in red.
Cassian stepped closer.
"Who are they?"
"Doctors," Christian said. "The ones who…"
He stopped. How much did he actually KNOW?
"The ones who what?" Junior asked.
Christian looked at the photos again.
Morita. Kessler. Chen.
"I don't know," he admitted. "Emdy told me they were removed. Dealt with."
"But two of them are still working at your hospital," Cassian said, pointing to Morita and Kessler's photos.
Christian nodded slowly.
"So what happened to them?" Junior asked.
