A moment later, Sean felt the other side of the bed dip. Ronan must have lain down beside him. Sean could smell the faint scent of disinfectant on him. For some reason, his own body felt feverishly hot, but he didn't even notice the beads of sweat forming on his face.
"Aren't you hot, hiding under the covers like that?" Ronan's gentle voice murmured in his ear.
Beneath the covers, Sean jolted. He didn't know why. He desperately wanted to run, yet his body remained frozen stiff. To make matters worse, it began to heat up against his will.
When Sean didn't answer, Ronan tried to lift the covers. But the instant he touched the fabric, Sean clutched it tightly, giving him no chance.
Seeing Sean's persistence, Ronan dropped his hand. He took off his shirt and lay down beside him.
As the mattress shifted slightly, Sean finally breathed a sigh of relief. All he wanted now was for Ronan to leave him alone, to not even look at him.
