On the sixteenth day of the ninth lunar month.
The exam results were announced in the prefectural capital. Because the journey was quite far and his wife from the Yue Family was still pregnant, Zhao Baizhou didn't go in person. Instead, he found a clever, literate boy from the village to run the errand for him. He had done the same for his previous two exams. The boy had left for the prefectural capital the night before. Naturally, Zhao Baizhou covered his travel expenses.
When Zhao Baizhou woke up on the sixteenth, he sat at his desk to read, but he simply couldn't focus. He constantly glanced out the window. Even though he had taken the exams several times before, he still couldn't remain completely composed.
