Victor Morgan understood what she was saying almost instantly. He rested his palm on the back of Jessie Sterling's head, her hair tickling his skin.
"I thought you didn't like the idea," Victor asked. "You don't have to force yourself."
"Then what about our parents?" Jessie asked.
"I'll handle them," Victor said.
Jessie fell silent for a moment before speaking again. "I'm scared of the pain."
'She wasn't ready at all. Becoming a mother felt like truly entering a whole new stage of life.'
Victor chuckled. "It won't be too late to discuss this when you actually want to have kids, will it? Telling yourself you're scared of the pain now is just putting needless pressure on yourself, don't you think?"
Jessie pursed her lips and poked Victor's chest again. "You always know just what to say!" she huffed. "But who knows if you really mean it."
Victor was ready to cry foul. He'd already conceded as much as he could, but his wife still didn't believe him. What else could he do?
