Sierra Sutton watched her steadily. He heard the venom in her words, but felt nothing inside.
Before, her words would have crushed him, leaving him disappointed and heartbroken. But now, it didn't matter what she said or did.
Besides, after today, there would be nothing left between them.
"Autumn Shelby, how have you been?"
Though his tone was calm and his words seemed cordial, it was the first time he had ever called her by her full name, creating a palpable distance between them.
Autumn Shelby froze, then gave a self-mocking laugh. "Well? Do you think I could possibly be 'well' in a place like this? Sierra Sutton, did you come here today to laugh at my misfortune? Seeing me like this, does it make you feel vindicated?"
Sierra's expression and tone were both flat. "No. I don't hate you. How could I feel vindicated?"
A flicker of joy flashed in Autumn's eyes at his words, and she couldn't stop herself from blurting out, "You really don't hate me?"
