Seeing the time was right, Mrs. Sterling finally broached the subject, albeit with some difficulty. "Aurora, Grandma knows you feel wronged. But there are some things we can't change, and we must learn to accept them."
Aurora knew Mrs. Sterling was talking about Joy and Sharon Dalton. She just nodded sullenly, not saying a word.
Mrs. Sterling sighed. "You can see for yourself that your father's feelings for your little aunt run deep. Besides, they have a daughter together, Sharon. Since I'm prepared to acknowledge Sharon, then your little aunt must naturally be acknowledged as well. Your mother has been gone for nearly two years now, and your father needs someone by his side to take care of him. At the end of the day, Joy is your little aunt. From what I can tell, she can be a bit small-minded, but she wouldn't go so far as to mistreat you. And even if she did, you'll still have me to back you up."
