Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: License

An FFL, or Federal Firearms License, is a license in the United States that grants a civilian or company permission to engage in the manufacture and trade of firearms.

There are nine types of licenses, similar to Class C or Class B driver's licenses.

They are Types 01, 02, 03, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, and 11.

Different license types have different requirements for selling NFA firearms.

For example, a Type 01 license allows for the sale of non-destructive devices. It's the most basic license for automatic weapons, permitting the purchase of firearms like the AK-47 and AR-15, but not the manufacture of guns or suppressors.

Other license types cover things like pawnbroking, antique collection, ammunition manufacturing, heavy weaponry, and destructive devices.

Having the appropriate FFL only grants you the legal qualification; you also need a SOT (Special Occupational Taxpayer) license. The SOT is the special tax paid for the privilege of dealing in various NFA devices.
