Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Let's Go Get Married

Vera Xavier looked at her hands, a little speechless. But inside, she was deeply moved, a warm feeling spreading through her.

She had seen clearly how careful Nathaniel Nathan's movements had been. A man of his status wouldn't act like that unless he truly cherished her.

'Just how foolish must I have been in my past life to have been blind to his true feelings?'

After he finished bandaging her hand, the butler, Ronan Tate, drove them to the Civil Affairs Bureau.

In the car, Ronan Tate glanced cautiously at the rearview mirror. Vera Xavier was sitting there quietly, a stark contrast to her frantic, self-destructive behavior from the past two days. Her current obedience was almost unsettling.

As they got out of the car, he quietly warned Nathaniel Nathan, "Sir, I'm afraid this is just a ploy from the young lady. She might cause a scene any moment now and try to escape."

Nathaniel Nathan shot him a sidelong glance, and Ronan immediately felt a piercing chill, instinctively taking a large step back.

Nathaniel paid him no further mind, his eyes fixed on Vera Xavier as she stepped out of the car. She was exquisitely beautiful, lovely and bright. Every time he looked at her, he could hear his own heart pound.

His gaze was complicated as he watched her. If she had only been placating him to get him to bring her out, then this crowded place would be the perfect opportunity for her to run.

For the first time, the normally unflappable Nathaniel Nathan felt a pang of nervousness. He was afraid she would do something outrageous, find a way to escape from him, and run back to Wesley Kane.

He swore to himself that if she showed the slightest intention of escaping, he would knock her unconscious, drag her back to the car, and never let her out again.

However, after taking three steps, she noticed he hadn't followed. She turned back, her bright eyes fixed on him as she said, "What's wrong? Regretting your promise to marry me? It's not too late to back out."

"Who said I regret it?" Nathaniel Nathan said coldly. He reached out, grabbed her, and pulled her into the Civil Affairs Bureau as if terrified she would run away.

Vera Xavier felt a bit helpless. 'Since I've already decided to try and accept him, there's no way I'd run. Why is he so nervous?'

When the clerk at the Civil Affairs Bureau stamped the documents and handed them the little red booklets, Nathaniel Nathan unconsciously let out a sigh of relief. They were finally married, and she hadn't used this as an opportunity to escape!

'Why the sudden, drastic change?'

His gaze held a new, probing quality as he looked at her.

Vera Xavier stared at the photo of the two of them on the marriage certificate, still in a daze. 'We're really married!'

She didn't know where this lifetime would ultimately take them, but she didn't regret her choice today.

And she still had so much to do. The people who bullied her were still out there, living happy, carefree lives. She couldn't just hide under his wing. Since heaven had given her a chance to live again, she was going to make this life a brilliant one!

So, she looked at him and said, "Regarding our marriage, I have a few requests. I hope you won't refuse."

"You can tell me, but I'll decide for myself whether to refuse," Nathaniel Nathan said coldly. If she was about to suggest they be married in name only, refusing all the duties of a husband and wife, he would absolutely never agree.

Vera Xavier said seriously, "First, I'm still a senior in high school, and the college entrance exams are coming up soon. I hope we can keep our marriage a secret for now."

Nathaniel asked, a bit puzzled, "Didn't you decide to stop studying and get married because you came in dead last in the entire school on your last exam?"

That was the story the Preston Family had told everyone, and it was what everyone believed.
