Vera Xavier sneered inwardly. 'Cara Preston is already getting antsy, and this is only the beginning.'
For the next few classes, Cara Preston remained distracted by the incident. At one point, the teacher called on her, and she stumbled over the answer. A few girls who never got along with her snickered in the corner.
Cara Preston found the whole thing incredibly humiliating, and it left a sour taste in her mouth. She had no choice but to force herself to pay attention for the rest of her classes.
When school let out that afternoon, she left the classroom with Vera Xavier, just as she always did. Waiting until no one was paying attention to them, she whispered, "Sis, how could you talk like that today?"
Vera Xavier looked at her, feigning confusion. "Did I say something wrong?"
