Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Abandoned

Once their car entered the city, Tristan Grayson reached over, grabbed the backpack from the seat, and shoved it into her arms.

Before she could even react, she heard Tristan Grayson's angry shout, "Stop the car!"

"Yes, sir."

The driver slammed on the brakes, pulling over to the side of the road.

"Get out." Tristan Grayson stood up, leaned across her, and opened her door.

She froze for a few seconds. When she came to her senses, her eyes red, she clutched the backpack and got out of the car without a moment's hesitation.

Before she had even steadied herself, the car door was slammed shut with a BANG. Then, after Tristan Grayson said something she couldn't hear, the car shot off and vanished before her eyes.

Watching the direction the car had gone, a self-deprecating smile touched her lips.

'It seems he really does hate me.'

Ten minutes later, Tristan Grayson's car pulled up to the entrance of the city's central hospital.

Tristan Grayson glanced at his watch. 9:58 AM.

His handsome face darkened as he remembered what Maggie Monroe had said to him last night. "Give me the keys. You can take a taxi back."

"Yes, Young Master."

Inside the hospital room, Maggie Monroe woke up and didn't see Tristan, and she had a complete breakdown.

'I knew it. It's always like this. Tristan always lies to me like this.'

She pulled the IV needle from her hand and, clutching her head in agony, burst into tears. 'What's the point of cooperating with the treatment? I'm just going to die anyway.'

When Tristan Grayson returned, he was met with the sight of Maggie Monroe having pulled out her IV needle, clutching her head and sobbing.

He rushed over and pulled Maggie Monroe into his arms, his voice hoarse and choked with emotion. "I'm sorry. It's my fault. I'm late."

"You lied to me again, Tristan! Why did you lie to me?! You promised you'd stay with me! You promised you'd wake me up at eight in the morning! Why did you abandon me?" Maggie Monroe shoved him away, crying out.

His brows furrowed tightly as he pulled Maggie Monroe into a firm embrace. "It's my fault. It's all my fault. You can hit me, you can yell at me, just please don't cry."

"Tristan, if you want to abandon me, why don't you just do it cleanly? Why did you even come back? I'm about to die, why do you still want me?"

"You won't die. I won't let you die!" Tristan Grayson's body trembled slightly as he held her, his tone firm.

Around 11:00 AM, Mika Summers finally got home.

She saw Sheldon Rhodes standing at her door, and her expression turned as sour as it could possibly be. "Go back and tell your young master there's no need to send someone to watch me. I, Mika Summers, am not the kind of person who goes back on her word."

"—" Sheldon Rhodes completely ignored her, continuing to stand ramrod straight at her door like a sentry.

Seeing this, she was filled with rage. "You want to stand there? Fine! Stand there until you drop!"

With that, she slammed the door shut with a SLAM.

'It was one thing for Tristan Grayson to control me during our three years of marriage, but we're divorced now. Why is he still sending someone to watch me? What does he mean by this?!'

'Am I the kind of person who would run away over a hundred million?'

She took out her phone, found Tristan Grayson's number, and planned to tell him she wasn't that kind of person.

But she tapped the call button several times, never daring to actually make the call to Tristan Grayson.

In the end, she gave up.

'If Tristan Grayson wants to send people to watch me, then let him. In just ten days, he and I will truly have nothing to do with each other anymore.'
