She nodded in astonishment.
A wicked smirk played on Archie Lockwood's lips as he leaned in close to her.
Gazing at the handsome face suddenly looming before her, Eleanor Bishop's heart hammered wildly in her chest. She was so nervous she held her breath, simply staring at him, dazed and unsettled.
Archie Lockwood watched her blush, her shy and anxious expression sending a wave of warmth through him. He raised his hand and gently caressed Eleanor Bishop's lips. In a raspy voice, he slowly said, "Don't be afraid. I'm here for you."
"Mm..." Eleanor Bishop's heart trembled. Her eyes welled up as she nodded, her throat tight with emotion.
He looked down, unbuckled Eleanor Bishop's seatbelt, and instructed again, "Sit still. Don't move."
Before Eleanor Bishop could reply, he turned, got out of the car, and walked around to the other side. He opened the passenger door and carefully lifted Eleanor out.
