Chase Hawkins chimed in, "Girlfriend-pecked."
The others glanced at Holly Winslow and burst out laughing. Holly's face turned red, and she lowered her head to eat a piece of grilled meat.
Perhaps because of the alcohol, Mortimer had lost his usual "don't mess with me" scowl. He leaned back lightly in his chair. "That's right. I'm hopelessly henpecked. It's incurable."

The others thought he was just playing along with their joke and broke into another round of rowdy laughter. Soon, they started goofing around with each other again, but they left Mortimer alone.
The group of boys started talking about video games, and Holly listened with great interest as she ate.
