"Grace." Unable to restrain himself, Caleb stepped forward, about to reach for her.
Grace took a step back, watching Caleb warily. "What are you doing?"
"It's broad daylight, Caleb. You'd better understand that assault is a crime. You dare touch me and see what happens."
Grace's words were like a bucket of cold water dumped over Caleb's head.
He stopped in his tracks, his eyes filled with pain. "Grace, I was wrong. I regret it. I shouldn't have brought Ivy White home. I don't know what came over me. Can you… can you please give me another chance?"
"I swear, I'll treat you right. I'll never, ever make this mistake again."

Grace let out a cold laugh. "Caleb, you don't regret it. You're just not used to the fact that, after I left, you can no longer find such an obedient, free housekeeper."
