"…" Howard glared at her, completely losing his appetite.
Nate Jennings shrank back a little. She knew asking this question wouldn't get her anywhere; she was just trying to liven things up.
"Speaking of which, every bride has to meet the in-laws eventually. When are you going to introduce me to them?"
"My parents are both dead, so you can't meet them," Howard replied, picking up a bite of food.
Even though he was trying to act nonchalant, she knew the question had touched a raw nerve.
She stopped talking and ate in silence.
'No wonder he never mentioned his family. So his parents…'
'It was all my fault for being so curious and having such a big mouth. I could just slap myself.'
Howard, however, found her silence unusual.
