Chapter 14 — When They Rally Around You

The early morning was quiet, deceptively calm. The wind whispered through the barracks, carrying faint hints of distant Titans.

A sudden alarm shattered the stillness. Multiple Titans were approaching the northern wall. The soldiers scrambled, fear and adrenaline surging.

You didn't hesitate. You grabbed your satchel, checking bandages, water, and emergency supplies. Every step was deliberate. Every move precise.

You found Eren first. He froze at the sight of a distant Titan, panic threatening to take him.

"You can do this," you said softly, kneeling beside him. "I'm here. Breathe with me."

Mikasa stepped closer, standing behind him, ready to follow your lead. Together, the three of you moved through the chaos, keeping calm as the Titans neared.

Levi appeared without warning, his movements silent, precise. But this time, he didn't lead alone. He watched you. Not with skepticism. Not with judgment. With trust.

"…You're calm," he muttered, almost in surprise. "…Not like me."

"I'm here for everyone," you said. "…Including you."

A subtle nod from him. And just like that, the unspoken bond between you strengthened further.

The real test came when a Titan breached the outer wall near the supply depot. Jean and Connie froze for a split second, unsure how to act.

You took charge. "Jean! Connie! Follow me! Mikasa, Eren, cover the rear!"

They obeyed without hesitation. Your presence anchored them. They followed your calm authority rather than orders.

Sasha ran past you, tossing supplies into the safe zones. "You always know what to do!" she shouted.

You just kept moving, steady. Calculated. Guiding everyone safely.

By nightfall, the immediate danger had passed. No one lost. No one injured beyond minor scrapes. And all of them—Levi included—looked at you differently.

Jean smiled faintly, genuine and unguarded.

Eren nodded, his trust in you unspoken but palpable.

Mikasa left a small note tucked under your pillow: "We survive because of you."

Sasha hugged you before she left for the night.

Levi… Levi lingered by your cot.

"You…" he began, voice low and controlled. "…You keep everyone together. And somehow… me too."

You looked at him quietly. "…I try."

He let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. "…Don't stop," he muttered.

It wasn't just acknowledgment anymore. It was a connection. A subtle, undeniable reliance on you—emotionally and strategically.

That night, you lay awake, reflecting.

They all looked to you. They depended on you. And in a world ruled by fear and death, you had become the anchor that kept them from falling apart.

You realized:

This wasn't just survival anymore.

This was belonging.

This was family.

And perhaps, quietly, Levi was part of that family in a way you had never expected.
