Chapter 17 - Chapter 017 : Preparations

A new day, with the skies still darkened over the British Tracen academy as an alarm rang in the background of the room which Kincsem occupied. Today was an earlier time at which she usually woke up, however this day would be her maiden race. The beginning of her career.

Uma Musume always desired to win on the track. To race. To win. As such, even she who reincarnated still embodied such desires. As she glanced upwards, her hand was extended, reaching up to the ceiling of her dormitory. A low, half awake sigh emerged from within as she got up from her bed.

Staring around the room, and out towards the window, the track was quiet. Only one or two people were seen jogging, but no one was actively training seriously. It was too early, only being around four o'clock. However, due to the race occurring in Windsor, she would have to travel out of the city to reach the track.

Now combing through the unkept tufts of hair that had come undone from resting, she recalled what she had packed. It was not much, as it was only a day trip from here and back, yet she still packed another pair of clothing, a racing outfit that had the position of where she would be designated, that being the second gate.

For a spring that was approximately six furlongs, it was a good draw for herself, as it gave high chances. Yet with her current skills and semi-matured body.. It was almost assured she would win. Dressing into a pair of casual clothing as she began to pack. Checking the insides of her pockets to make sure she had packed the three essentials.

Staring around, she took one last view of the dorm, before leaving. Now walking through the quiet hallways. The majority of the campus was still asleep, or barely stirring awake, now quarter to five. As she went over to a vending machine, inserting a few coins before a cold can of cola dropped.

Taking a sip, she glanced around, wondering if anyone else was leaving their dorms like her, and one figure was. A person she instantly recognised by her presence and appearance alone. Reserved, yet a true genius of the current era. A person that had come from a military family.

Yet with her, came the calm presence that spoke volumes. Not outspoken, but only showed her skills with her actions. Clad in navy and minimal designed clothes that were sharp and elegant. A cleanly knit figure that was composed of steel. This person was Sinndar.

A figure that back in 2000, was on a similar plane to TM Opera O. Where in the six races they had participated in, they had only lost in one. A listed stake. Yet in that same year, they had won in the Epsom and Irish derby's.. And the Prix De l'arc de triomphe.

Commendable in her own rights, a person who retired too soon, fuelled by the satisfaction of winning, as they stared at one another. Acknowledging, understanding. Two figures, strong in their own right, yet one had never truly performed on the track till now. Only in practice runs did they know Kincsem's power.

"..Till we meet again." A sudden line, muttered by Sinndar, before nodding as she turned away. An unexpected meeting yet, an affirmation that one day, they would meet on the track. Not as mere classmates, but as opponents. And on that day, one of them would fall.

As Kincsem left the school campus, the sun's gaze finally fell upon the skies above British Tracen, with birds cawing, the city would finally wake. Officially starting the new day. With her now taking a light jog through the streets, it would remove the languish nature of her morning self. As she began to reflect on all the events that had conjured up this current moment.

From reincarnation till now, her decisions had steered her to here. Her fate twisting and turning around, yet always still with the goal of re-enacting those fifty four races that the true version of herself had won. Yet..was she truly following fate?

Hadn't she diverted off of the path of her story? To begin at Windsor, was to juxtapose her origins. What she was doing was to dismiss fate's will. By not starting in Berlin, she was rebelling, no matter if she met the standard of becoming undefeated.

However, why hadn't the worldline fixed itself? Why had the three goddesses not acted upon her actions? Nothing made sense, and neither did the world try to make sure she understood why. Only patchwork ideas that scattered her mind.

Now slowing down, she had reached the train station, printing out her train ticket before boarding. Scrolling through her phone as time trickled. There was time to kill between now and the race beginning. Time that she would thus spend conversing with family members and friends.

Glancing over at the window beside her, the landscape truly was serene. Natural grassland with lush villages that bloomed like flowers. She'd never been a fan of the modern styles of society that were brutalist and focused on height rather than beauty.

Yet as the city of Windsor came into view, it was calming. An induced sense of peace, one that drifted with the wind. As she deboarded the train, she exited the station.

A new city, one that she could explore. Explore for a few hours at least. It was only around half past seven anyways, still almost eight hours till she'd begin final preparations for the maiden race that was looming. But till then, she'd scout the entire city.

Historical landmarks such as the Windsor castle amongst others stood on the top of her to-do list anyways. With hours passing, she'd go around some of the tourist spots, before concentrating on the time.

Now it was two hours till her maiden race, as she made the trek back to where it was to occur. Maybe due to it not being a graded race, there wasn't much of an audience, as only a few scouters were around, as well as Uma Musume who were participating.

Nineteen people were to participate today. That is what had been told to her by the co-ordinators, as she entered one of the changing rooms, changing into the kit which had been provided to her. Loosely fitting around her figure, as she stared in the mirror.

Soon, the race would begin. And so would her career.
