Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Search and Discovery

Sam's Perspective

It was twelve in the morning. Terra was deep in her gaming session down in the living room. I had double checked. She should not be upstairs for another two hours. It was the perfect time to commence Operation Secret Extraction of Classified Knowledge Safely.

I quietly opened the door to Terra's room and snuck in. I looked around the room that I had been in many times before over the years. This time felt different. Everything felt alien. It was as if I were trespassing on hallowed ground. Ignoring the growing feeling of discomfort, I walked over to Terra's desk. I opened the draw in which I had seen her hide the paper. I searched through everything thoroughly.

The secret note was nowhere to be found. My cunning little sister must have noticed my gaze and moved it to a new location. She must have been so scared that I would discover her secret.

Once I find the guy who made her cry, I'll make him regret ever knowing about my precious little sister. I clenched my fist, imagining how I would torture any man who would even think of hurting my beloved Terra.

I searched through the rest of her desk drawers. I found some sketches and a note in which she listed things that she hates about mother. I made a mental note to talk to Terra about expressing herself more clearly with our mother, but I was unable to find the tear-stained note.

The next most likely hiding place was my sister's night stand. I walked over to her bed. Her bed sat in the corner of her room with one wall behind her headboard and one wall along the side of the bed. The head of her bed was positioned on the opposite wall from her desk. The nightstand next to her bed had two drawers. She stored all kinds of things in those drawers. I searched through both drawers. I found her old diary from when she was in high school. It was still locked and the red pentagram on the front had faded little from time.

Dang it's not anywhere in her desk or in her nightstand. That only leaves one place left to look. My mind raced at this realization. She must have hidden the note in the most secret of places. Operation SECKS was in its most climactic moment.

I steeled myself to search the one place I never should. It was Terra's most secret place. A location that any normal older brother would simply find awkward, but for me was tantamount to treason. I shook my head to clear my thoughts. With shaking hands, I reached forward and opened the drawer.

I leaned over to look inside the dresser drawer. What greeted my eyes were my little sister's panties. The panties were in a multitude of colors, a stark contrast to the dark tones of her outer clothes. Sitting on top of the pile was an especially skimpy garment. A pair of lace panties.

An intrusive image flashed into my mind of Terra standing with her arms outstretched clad only in the pair of lace panties and a matching bra. The phantom appeared to be beckoning me to embrace her barely clothed form. Her pearly white skin glistened in my mind.

Shaking my head to cleanse my impure thoughts about my little sister I reached my hands into the drawer to search for the tear-stained page. I sifted through Terra's underwear looking for the note.

Just as I found the note at the bottom of the drawer, I heard a noise that made my heart stop. The bedroom door opened and I heard Terra's voice from the doorway behind me, "Big Brother, what are you doing in my room?"

I quickly grabbed the note in my hand before freezing.

Terra's Perspective.

"Big Brother, what are you doing in my room?" I asked again, this time louder.

Getting over the surprise, I realized exactly where Big Brother's hands were.

"What the Hell are you doing in my underwear drawer?!" I yelled.

I watched as my big brother turned around slowly. His face was drained of color, a look of utter horror plastered every inch of his face.

"I-I can explai-" he started.

"GET OUT!!" I cut him off before he could finish, my own face beginning to flush.

I ran over. Grabbing him, I pulled him away from my dresser and flung him out of my room. I immediately slammed the door behind him. I jumped onto my bed and grabbed a pillow.

As I lay on my bed, clutching a pillow to my chest, I wondered what Big Brother was doing sneaking around in my room. I questioned why he would be rummaging around in my underwear drawer.

"If Big Brother wanted to look at some of my panties he could have just asked," I mumble to myself.

My face flushes bright pink at the words that just slipped out of my mouth. I thought back to the moment Big Brother turned around. He had his hands raised, but his fists were closed. It looked like he was grasping something in his fist.

My thoughts racing, I felt my brain overheat. I shoved my head into my pillow to try to block out the thoughts.

He took something. What did he take? Did he ACTUALLY take a pair of my panties???!!!!!! The scream my mind released at this revelation would have flattened the entire block if it were uttered aloud.

A rainbow of emotions ran through my mind in an instant, confusion, anger, embarrassment, happiness, embarrassment again, fear, shame, followed by a final confusion. I simply could not figure out how to feel about what Big Brother did, if he actually took something from my drawer. After strengthening my heart, I decided that I would go confront Big Brother.

Sam's Perspective

Having reached my room I sat down on my bed. My heart raced out of my chest.

She definitely hates me! What am I going to do? She saw me rummaging through her underwear drawer. The panic thoughts flooded my mind all at once, one racing after the other. She is going to think that I am a freak who rummages through his sister's panties.

I took several deep breaths to calm my racing heart and mind. Everything would be fine. I would just explain to her that I was searching for the note in my hand.

Remembering the note, my mind shifted to my still clenched hand. The sensation in my hand did not feel exactly like what I would expect paper to feel like. While parts certainly felt like gripping paper, other parts felt like cloth. A bead of ice ran down my back. I felt the presence of the reaper's scythe leaning over my shoulder. I tensed all my muscles as I slowly opened my palm. There were two distinct colors present in my palm, black and white.

I carefully separated the two items in my hands and placed them gingerly on my bed. I placed the panties on the bed and then uncrumpled the note. Having completed both tasks, my mind went blank for a moment before rebooting into complete panic.

There is no way she is going to accept any explanation, she will just think it's an excuse. I am dead. I took her panties!!! I have failed as an older brother. I deserve to be torn limb from limb. I have completely trampled on my honor as an older brother.

Deciding to put aside my failures for the moment, I picked up the note. Contrary to my expectations the note was not a desperate call for help against a horrible online abuser. The note was instead lyrics. It was truly strange that she would go to such lengths to hide something like this from me.

I held the sheet of paper in front of me and began to read. The lyrics were of a melancholic love song. The lyrics told a story of a forbidden love that could never be spoken. They truly resonated with my soul. Reading them, thoughts of my romantic feelings for Terra were brought to my mind.

This song could not possibly be about her having feelings for me, could it? Are my romantic feelings for Terra reciprocated?

My musings were cut short by the opening of my bedroom door.

"Big Brother, we need to talk." At that moment my little sister walked into my room. Her eyes were immediately drawn to the pair of panties on my bed. A complex emotion crossed her face as she turned to look at me. When her eyes landed on the lyric sheet her expression changed to one of horror.

"Big B-b-b-brother, w-where did you get that?" Terra pointed at the sheet of paper in my hands. The color drained from her already pale face.

It seemed that we would have quite a bit more to discuss than I had anticipated.
