Chapter 37 - You’ve Leveled Up!

"Lord Jashin's Nurturing Mini-game reminds you that through your unremitting efforts, the reputation of the Jashin Religion has risen by 6,436 points!"

"You've leveled up!"

"Your soul strength and spiritual power have been significantly enhanced!"

Simu looked at the message popping up before his eyes and gently adjusted his glasses. If it hadn't proactively reminded him, he might have forgotten he even had this system.

Regardless...

He had finally reached Level 2!

Although Simu's expression didn't change much, his body couldn't help but experience a surge of pleasure. This manifested physically as...

The blood pool in the shrine began to bubble and churn vigorously.

The cultist responsible for guarding the shrine ran out in a frantic panic to report: "This is terrible! Lord Jashin is so happy he's literally bubbling over!"

Simu: ...

A certain Evil God: None of my business, hey!

To be honest, Simu didn't know his psychological activity would be expressed in such a manner.

In any case, the influence of the Jashin Religion's recent actions was indeed massive. The Sakamoto Company was, after all, the largest merchant guild in the Land of Rivers, possessing intricate ties with many local nobles. Its sphere of influence even radiated to several surrounding nations.

Yet, such a powerful organization had been slaughtered overnight. Furthermore, it was done by an organization called the Jashin Religion.

While this cult had some minor fame in the Land of Rivers, it was previously only known by hearsay. No one expected that once they moved, they would be...

So bloody and brutal.

It was said they piled all the corpses of the Sakamoto Company into a mountain of bodies to perform a sacrifice to their so-called Evil God. Consequently, due to its extremely intense religious style, the Jashin Religion became an overnight sensation, attracting the attention of many. This was why their reputation points had exploded by over six thousand.

While the exact calculation method for these points remained a mystery, Simu was undoubtedly satisfied with this harvest. After leveling up, his system interface had also undergone an update.

After leveling up, Simu could clearly feel that his soul and spiritual power had been immensely strengthened. This was specifically reflected in the progress of the two research genes: [Jashin Gene] and [Water Style Ninja].

One must understand that when Simu was Level 1, no matter how much spiritual power he invested into researching the [Jashin Gene], the progress bar wouldn't budge at all. Now, after only a few days at Level 2, it had surged to 0.91%. Moreover, this was not the end. At this rate, it was highly likely to hit around 5% in a single burst over the coming period.

As for the [Water Style Ninja] gene, its progress could be described as advancing by leaps and bounds. The genetic makeup of that fellow Miura Kikuchi had been almost completely deciphered by Simu.

Of course, the reason Simu named this gene "Water Style Ninja" meant his pursuit went far beyond this. Miura Kikuchi was merely a Chunin, or at best possessed the strength of a Special Jonin; he couldn't possibly satisfy Simu's requirements.

In the future, he would inevitably study and analyze more Water Style ninjas. For instance, he had already used crows and Black Beetles to quietly swallow and transport all the ninjas from the Sakamoto Company and the Hidden Steam Village back to his main body.

Despite them all being Chunin, Simu classified these ninjas into different tiers based on their strength. For example, the ninjas under Sakamoto were mostly rogue ninjas. Compared to those from official hidden villages, their strength was somewhat lacking, so they were categorized as Rogue Chunin level.

The Chunin from the Hidden Steam Village were categorized as Small Village Chunin level. Behind them, Simu reserved slots for Great Village Chunin level for the Five Great Shinobi Nations. Further back were categories for Special Jonin, regular Jonin, and so on.

Most of the research materials Simu currently held were Chunin level, primarily focusing on Water Style and Earth Style. He had one each for Lightning Style and Fire Style, but as for Wind Style, he had none at all.

To better study the essence of ninjas, Simu created three new analysis tasks on the system: [Earth Style Ninja], [Fire Style Ninja], and [Lightning Style Ninja].

With Simu's current spiritual power and so many materials, Earth Style and Water Style should see breakthroughs very soon, though Fire and Lightning might take longer. Aside from this, Simu was even more concerned with another line of research: the development of new types of Kagune.

Before leaving Mizuo Village, Simu had the Black Beetles swallow and take away Sakamoto's corpse, the molted remains left by Mori Shiraishi, and a vial of blood drawn from Mori Shiraishi's body.

Evidently, during that battle, the Kagune in both Mori Shiraishi and Sakamoto had undergone varying degrees of mutation. What Simu needed to do now was analyze their tissues to determine the mutated genes. He would then replicate and integrate the useful genes into new Kagune to create even more powerful and versatile versions.

Thinking of this, Simu raised his palm and looked at it. It was about time to modify this body as well. As the spokesman of Jashin, keeping such a normal human body was simply too abnormal.

"Ah! Finally back at headquarters!"

Hidan stretched lazily, a rare note of excitement in his voice. However, he wasn't excited about being back at the base; he was just happy he could finally rest.

He simply wanted a break. Phrases like "The headquarters is my home" would never come out of Mr. Hidan's mouth. Furthermore, if it weren't for Simu's intervention, he would have already sacrificed all the hypocritical believers in the base to Lord Jashin. In Hidan's heart, anyone who hadn't received the Evil God's blessing was an insincere hypocrite!

As Hidan kicked open the main doors of the headquarters, the atmosphere of the entire base instantly became tense.

"Divine Sons, you've returned?"

Hidan, being quite thick-headed, didn't notice the change in the atmosphere at all. He strode grandly toward the newly built cafeteria.

"Delicious pork cutlets, here I come!"
