Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Problem of Face

As the saying goes, concern leads to confusion. Weston's words were flawless, and Guild Master Giselev immediately believed him completely.

He immediately clenched his fists, glaring angrily into the distance.

"Those useless trash parents too! How dare they let their children gossip about Zera in the Schoolhouse? Unforgivable!"

At this moment, Guild Master Giselev wished he could immediately fly in front of those students' parents and 'reason' with them properly.

A few seconds later, he lowered his head again to look at Weston.

"In that case, you don't need to follow Zera anymore. Starting tomorrow, you'll stay at the Guild doing odd jobs, so you won't go out and embarrass her!"

"Of course, no problem!"

Weston quickly nodded, but the next moment, a look of worry appeared on his face: "It's just..."

Why is this so troublesome?!

Guild Master Giselev frowned and demanded, "Just what?"

"It's just that if those students find out about this, they might start saying things like 'Miss Zera can't even afford clothes for a single attendant,' 'She's poor but likes to pretend she's rich,' or 'She finally can't keep up the facade'..."

"They dare?!!"

Guild Master Giselev's eyes widened, and his voice immediately rose by 50 decibels.

But after calming down and thinking about it, he realized that this situation was not impossible.

"You caused this trouble, so you figure out how to fix it!"

"Of course, no problem!"

Weston grinned: "We just need to let those ungrateful, snobbish bastards know how wealthy our Red Lizard is, and how much you, the Guild Master, dote on your daughter. Wouldn't that solve it?"

"Stop talking nonsense! Just tell me directly, what should I do so Zera can vent her frustration?"

Guild Master Giselev waved his hand impatiently.

"The method is simple!"

Weston presented the words he had prepared earlier: "Since those people think my clothes are cheap, Guild Master, you should outfit me with a brand new set of clothes, ten or even a hundred times better than what they wear!"

"When those people see that even a mere attendant like me is dressed so well, they naturally won't dare to look down on Miss Zera or gossip about her anymore!"

"Guild Master, don't you agree?"

Guild Master Giselev was silent for a few seconds, deep in thought: "That makes some sense..."

"Right, right?"

Weston struck while the iron was hot: "Oh, and one attendant might not be shocking enough; we should have two!"

"I suggest having Mavis also serve as Miss Zera's attendant."

"After all, I'm a boy, so their immediate impression might not be as strong;"

"But Mavis is a girl. With her for comparison, those people will surely be too ashamed to even lift their heads in front of Miss Zera!"

"When that happens, wherever Miss Zera goes, she'll have the two of us attendants protecting her. How impressive will that be!"

The more Guild Master Giselev listened, the happier he became.

This plot device of 'being looked down upon' followed by 'slapping them in the face' made him so excited that his breathing quickened and he trembled where he stood.

"Excellent, excellent..."

"Weston, your idea is brilliant! I, the Guild Master, approve!"

Looking at Weston, who was not even as tall as his waist, Guild Master Giselev's eyes were filled with satisfaction.

However, when his gaze fell upon Mavis, a hint of hesitation appeared.

"But... if Mavis becomes Zera's attendant, who will do the odd jobs in the Guild?"

Weston hadn't expected that at this point, Guild Master Giselev would still be worried about the Guild's odd jobs.

Fortunately, he reacted quickly and immediately thought of a countermeasure.

"Guild Master, you are always wise. Why can't you distinguish priorities now?"

"Any random person can do the odd jobs in the Guild!"

"But restoring Miss Zera's face is not something just anyone can do!"

Guild Master Giselev frowned again and asked in a deep voice, "Why is that?"

"The reason is simple!"

"This is a conflict between children, after all, so it must be resolved by us children helping Miss Zera get 'revenge'."

"If the adults in the Guild step in, even if Miss Zera successfully vents her frustration, the people at the Schoolhouse won't be convinced. Instead, they'll think Miss Zera relied on adults to win, and they'll look down on her even more!"

As Weston spoke, he raised his fist, putting on a show of righteous indignation.

I didn't expect this kid to be quite loyal to Zera... Guild Master Giselev nodded in satisfaction.

He understood what Weston meant. It was like how the Red Lizard always clashed with the Magic Guild, 'Blue Skull'; if they brought in too much external help one day, even if they won, he wouldn't be satisfied.

"Guild Master, you need to think this through carefully."

"No matter how important these odd jobs in the Guild are, can they be more important than Miss Zera's face?"

Weston's final sentence was the last straw that broke the camel's back, completely firming Guild Master Giselev's resolve.

"Of course not!"

"Zera is my most beloved daughter, more important than the entire Guild!"

Guild Master Giselev glanced at Weston and Mavis again.

"It's just two attendants, isn't it? I agree!"

"I'll go buy you the best clothes right now. Tomorrow, the two of you will wear your new clothes to the Schoolhouse and thoroughly humiliate those brats!"

"You must let them know that my daughter Zera is the most outstanding and honorable child on this island, completely different from their impoverished families!"

Weston was overjoyed internally, but his face was extremely serious and earnest, as if he had received a highly crucial mission. He stood perfectly straight.

"As you command!!"

"Tomorrow at the Schoolhouse, we will certainly bring honor to Miss Zera and let her properly vent her frustration over today's events!"

"Hahaha... Well said!"

Guild Master Giselev laughed heartily several times, then tucked his jingling money pouch away and walked toward the clothing store in the village.

After his retreating figure vanished.

Weston and Mavis exchanged glances, then simultaneously burst out laughing.

Guild Master Giselev and Zera, this father-daughter pair, were truly easier to fool than the last.

Zera's dull-wittedness must definitely be inherited from her old man... That night, when Guild Master Giselev returned, he did indeed buy a new set of clothes and a new pair of shoes for both Weston and Mavis, and he notified the entire Guild that Mavis's odd jobs would be handed over to someone else.

Most of the Mages in the Red Lizard were not good people.

Under Guild Master Giselev's leadership, the entire Guild had developed a severe culture of 'bullying the weak,' treating Weston and Mavis, two orphans without adult supervision at home, as disposable servants who could be summoned and dismissed at will, completely lacking the self-awareness expected of adults and elders.

Therefore, Weston would occasionally trick them once or twice in retaliation.

Afterward, Guild Master Giselev repeatedly and earnestly instructed Weston and Mavis to make sure they brought honor to Zera tomorrow.

Both of them agreed with utmost seriousness, and then... promptly forgot all about it the moment they turned away.
