Chapter 2 - 2. A Broken Car and Untold Wealth

Maya raised her hand to hit Nidhi.

Before anyone could react, Nidhi caught her hand mid-air and pushed it away. Her face showed no emotion as she said coldly,

"I have no interest in your things."

The very next moment, she picked up the necklace and threw it straight into the dustbin.

Everyone froze.

This was the first time they had seen such a side of Nidhi.

Usually, Nidhi stayed quiet. She only answered in yes or no. She always followed Maya and Alok around, trying to gain their attention, trying to please them.

But today… she was completely different.

Maya's face turned red with anger. She was about to say something when suddenly the sound of a car horn echoed from outside.

"Enough drama," Alok said quickly, trying to control the situation.

"Looks like Nidhi's family has arrived."

He didn't want another argument at the time of her departure.

Nidhi picked up her bag and walked out without looking back. Alok followed her, and soon Maya and Aashna also came outside.

As soon as they reached the courtyard, everyone saw a luxury car standing there.

It was a Bentley Continental GT — a limited edition model.

But its condition was terrible.

Scratches covered the body. One side was dented. It looked… broken.

"We already knew her family is poor," Alok said mockingly.

"So why pretend to be rich? What are they trying to prove by sending such a broken car?"

Nidhi ignored him and walked toward the car.

At that moment, a man around forty stepped out. He was the driver, Jack. He hurried toward Nidhi and bowed slightly.

"I'm sorry, young madam," Jack said awkwardly.

"There was a small accident on the way."

He scratched his head and glanced at the damaged car.

"It's okay," Nidhi replied calmly and moved toward the door.

But the moment she pulled the door handle—

The door came off in her hand.

Jack's face turned stiff.

"I think the accident was not that small," he said nervously.

"We'll fix it on the way."

"When they can't even afford such an expensive car," Alok scoffed,

"why send this broken thing? What are they trying to show?"

Aashna crossed her arms and smiled sarcastically.

"Sister, I thought your family was poor but loving," she said mockingly.

"But they didn't even bother to come themselves."

Alok stared at the car silently.

He knew cars.

This was truly a rare and expensive limited-edition model…

Yet it looked worse than junk.

"Nidhi, why don't you take our car instead?" Alok said politely.

"Our driver can drop you and return later."

It was nothing more than formality.

Maya didn't like it at all.

She immediately interrupted angrily,

"Why are you interfering? Her family sent a car, let her go in that.

This is no longer her home, and she has no rights here. Don't give her false hopes."

Alok fell silent.

Nidhi didn't respond to anyone.

She placed her bag inside the car, then calmly asked Jack for the repair tools.

Before anyone could react, she started fixing the door herself.

Within minutes—

The door was fixed enough to close properly.

Jack stared at her in shock.

This small lady… fixed it so easily.

"Can we leave now?" Nidhi asked calmly.

Jack nodded quickly.

"Yes, miss. But before that, your family has sent gifts for the Mehra family."

He opened the trunk and took out several large boxes.

Nidhi wanted to stop him, but seeing the condition of the boxes, she said nothing.

She already knew what would happen.

Jack carried the boxes to Alok and handed them over.

"Mr. Mehra," Jack said respectfully,

"These gifts are from our madam as a token of thanks for raising our family's daughter for so many years."

Alok showed no excitement.

"Do they think we are beggars?" Maya said coldly and walked inside.

"What can these broken boxes even contain?"

Aashna smiled arrogantly and followed her mother.

Mahesh stood there, staring strangely at the damaged boxes.

Jack noticed his gaze and smiled lightly.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Mehra," Jack said,

"The accident damaged the boxes a little on the way—"

Before he could finish, Alok interrupted him.

"Oh no problem," Alok said quickly.

"Nidhi is also our child. We raised her as our own. We don't need these."

He refused to accept the gifts.

The torn packaging made the Mehra family believe the contents were worthless.

What they didn't know—

Inside those boxes were things beyond their wildest dreams.

Jack wanted to explain.

He wanted to tell them what was inside.

But—

Madam Mehra had already turned away.

"I think you should take Nidhi home now," she said coldly.

"Her family must be waiting."

Since they refused the gifts themselves, Jack said nothing more.

He returned to the driver's seat and started the car.

"They are truly generous people," Jack said with a smile as the car moved.

"They refused so many gifts."

"Things are not always what they seem," Nidhi replied calmly.

Jack didn't understand her words.

But when he looked at her expression, it reminded him of his master's eldest son.

He fell silent.

The car drove toward its destination.

They hadn't gone far when Nidhi's phone rang.

Her eyes darkened when she saw the caller ID.

Dr. Keshav.

She answered the call.

As she listened, her expression slowly changed.

"Alright," she said firmly.

"I'll be there in ten minutes."

She ended the call and looked at Jack.

"Uncle Jack," she said softly but urgently,

"Please take me to City Hospital."
