Chapter 24 - A New Avatar — Makima

A faint white glow lit up the apartment as a tall, slender figure—entirely different in temperament from Seele—slowly materialized before An Xora.

She had wine-red, shoulder-length hair and wore a sharp, well-tailored women's suit. Her graceful figure was accentuated perfectly by the cut of the suit. Pale golden eyes, marked with subtle concentric rings, seemed to draw people in unconsciously, while at the same time faintly radiating the authority of one who stood above others. A perfectly measured smile rested on her lips—warm enough to feel approachable, yet distant enough to inspire instinctive caution.

There was no doubt about it.

This was the new avatar An Xora had manifested—

The Control Devil: Makima.

"Nice to meet you, my master."

After briefly surveying the room, Makima's gaze settled on An Xora. The smile on her lips deepened slightly as she stepped forward, then calmly knelt on one knee before him.

"To be chosen as the object of your manifestation is my greatest honor."

Unlike Seele's way of addressing An Xora, Makima's form of address was far more direct.

That was only natural.

In the system-arranged background, Seele and An Xora had both grown up in the same orphanage and continued living together after leaving it. Their relationship was naturally close, which was why Seele called him An Xora-ge.

Makima, however, was different.

When manifesting this avatar, An Xora had deliberately spent additional system points to give her an identity completely separate from his and Seele's—one with no personal ties to them whatsoever. Under such circumstances, Makima addressed An Xora directly as her master.

As for why An Xora had gone out of his way to spend points crafting a special identity for Makima—

that had everything to do with his long-standing plan.

As early as a month ago, when Gojo Satoru first invited him to join the jujutsu world, An Xora—having full knowledge of what the jujutsu higher-ups were like from the original story—had already begun preparing an avatar specifically meant to deal with those people.

Now, Makima was that weapon.

A decisive trump card meant to completely and permanently resolve the problem of the jujutsu world's higher-ups.

Because of that, when manifesting Makima, An Xora not only spent extra points to preserve her non-human race, but also invested additional points to carefully design her identity in this world—one that would allow her to easily approach, infiltrate, and secretly control the jujutsu higher-ups.

An elite sorcerer born into a high-ranking jujutsu family.

Possessing Grade 1 sorcerer-level strength and official certification.

And holding an important position within the jujutsu world.

Thanks to this background, even before An Xora had transferred any system-purchased abilities to her, Makima already possessed Grade 1–level cursed energy and combat power.

At the same time, although her background portrayed her as a sorcerer from a prestigious jujutsu family, An Xora had retained Makima's devil racial traits from the Chainsaw Man universe.

As a result, in this world, Makima's nature leaned closer to that of a cursed spirit—yet she wasn't entirely the same.

After all, Makima possessed a tangible physical body. While her essence was closer to a curse, as long as she carefully restrained her aura and didn't reveal her true nature, An Xora doubted that anyone in this world would ever realize that the seemingly human Makima was actually a curse.

And honestly speaking, the way devils were born in the Chainsaw Man universe shared striking similarities with how cursed spirits came into being in the jujutsu world. With Makima's identity as a devil, integrating into this world felt completely seamless.

"Makima, next I'll be granting you the abilities I purchased from the system shop. Be prepared."

As An Xora spoke, he transferred the three abilities he had bought—

Control Devil AuthorityHerrscher of Binding AuthoritySpirit Whisper (Enchantment Technique)

Makima closed her eyes, carefully sensing the new powers flowing into her body.

Just like when Seele had received the Herrscher of Life and Death's authority, the moment the Herrscher of Binding Authority—another Herrscher-class power—was bestowed upon Makima, her cursed energy began to surge at an astonishing rate.

Coupled with the Control Devil's authority, which had now fully adapted to the jujutsu world and further amplified her cursed energy, Makima's raw cursed energy reserves alone were beginning to show faint signs of surpassing even Seele's.

As for Spirit Whisper, that wasn't something one could judge at a glance—it required firsthand experience to truly understand its terror.

"You understand the plan regarding the jujutsu higher-ups, correct?"

After finishing the power transfer, An Xora looked at Makima and asked.

Makima nodded slightly.

As an avatar, she naturally knew An Xora's intention—to secretly dominate the jujutsu higher-ups and turn the entire jujutsu world into his personal domain.

"Controlling those higher-ups will not be difficult for me," Makima replied calmly.

"Once I return, I can begin immediately and gradually bring the entire jujutsu leadership under my control."

"At that point, the whole jujutsu world will act in accordance with my master's will. No one will dare overstep their place."

Her tone was flat, almost indifferent.

Makima had no doubts about her success.

Even without counting the Herrscher of Binding Authority and Spirit Whisper—both devastating trump cards—she was confident she could accomplish the task using the Control Devil's authority alone.

Knowing the original plot, was there really any reason to fear a group of mediocre, scheming old men who were only good at internal power struggles?

Once their weaknesses were understood, how could such people possibly resist Makima's domination—

especially when she had been given such a perfectly tailored identity?

"I'll be waiting for your good news, Makima."

Satisfied with her response, An Xora nodded.

...

Late at night, Tokyo—within a traditional Japanese courtyard steeped in an old-fashioned aesthetic.

A lone figure arrived at the entrance. The guards stationed on either side immediately bowed.

"Lady Makima."

Makima—who had only recently been in An Xora's apartment—gave a faint nod and stepped inside.

Unlike Seele, whose background had her living together with An Xora, Makima's identity came with her own residence.

The vast courtyard before her—occupying an enormous area in one of Tokyo's most expensive districts—was the estate of the jujutsu high-ranking family into which Makima had been "born."

And according to her background setting—

This was her home.
