Chapter 55 - The Shibuya Incident — The Prison Realm’s Iconic Scene

"How's the collection of Sukuna's fingers going?"

Lying atop a thoroughly disheveled bed, An Xora spoke as he asked Makima.

Although he had already formed the idea of manifesting a new avatar, the world of Jujutsu Kaisen was clearly not suitable for a research-type incarnation to fully demonstrate its talents.

Unlike combat-oriented avatars like Seele or Makima, which could be put to use immediately as long as there was a fight to participate in, a research-type avatar would require not only materials for experimentation but also a stable and well-equipped environment.

Since that was the case, it would be better to wait until reaching a new world before manifesting such an avatar.

For now, however, the Jujutsu Kaisen world had yet to be fully cleared.

Although the curse faction represented by Kenjaku and the Disaster Curses had already been wiped out, and the higher-ups of the jujutsu world had likewise all fallen under Makima's control—making it impossible for them to stir up any more trouble—

There was still one final villain left standing in this world.

Ryomen Sukuna.

At the same time, the rewards tied to Sukuna were also the highest in the entire world. Calculated at 2,500 points per finger, after excluding the three fingers whose rewards had already been obtained, the remaining seventeen fingers could provide An Xora with a total of 42,500 points.

In other words, as long as Sukuna gathered all twenty fingers and was then defeated by Seele or Makima, An Xora would instantly pocket over forty thousand points and completely clear this world.

As for the various foreign powers that Yuki Tsukumo had previously mentioned—those secretly coveting the jujutsu world—they could be dealt with slowly later on. When the time came, it would amount to little more than Makima taking a casual stroll.

Makima was clearly aware of all this. After a brief moment of contemplation, she spoke.

"As early as a month ago, right after the barrier covering all of Japan was completed and deployed, I ordered Kenjaku and the cursed spirits under my control to continue collecting Sukuna's fingers."

"As for the fingers within the jujutsu world, they had already all been gathered through other higher-ups—those were the six fingers that were stolen back then."

"At the current pace, it shouldn't take long before all of Sukuna's fingers are collected."

The main issue was that in the original Jujutsu Kaisen storyline, the specific origins of many of Sukuna's fingers were never clearly explained. There was often no depiction of the collection process at all—at most, a brief mention of who collected them, or a couple of panels showing them being taken out.

As a result, even an avatar like Makima, who had been manifested by An Xora and possessed knowledge of the original plot, could only leave the actual task of collection to Kenjaku himself.

Fortunately, the overall timeline of Jujutsu Kaisen was not very long. From the moment Yuji Itadori swallowed Sukuna's finger and joined Tokyo Jujutsu High, to the conclusion of the story, only a little over half a year passed.

Coupled with the fact that Kenjaku himself had long made preparations in this regard, progress was extremely fast.

Once all the fingers were gathered, all that remained was to find an opportunity to release Ryomen Sukuna.

"The Shibuya Incident?"

The original plot had already been warped beyond recognition. If another Shibuya Incident were to be staged now, it would inevitably differ greatly from the original.

The most direct change was that Gojo Satoru, Yuki Tsukumo, and Yuta Okkotsu—three special-grade sorcerers in the original story—were now all in Japan.

If Seele and Makima were also counted, then with Kenjaku and the Disaster Curses alone, not to mention causing trouble, they would likely be instantly annihilated the moment they showed their faces.

Because of this, Makima would need to step in to balance the scales between the two sides.

...

And so, three weeks later.

Tokyo — Shibuya Ward, 7:00 p.m.

A barrier nearly a kilometer in diameter descended, centered on Tokyu Department Store, Toyoko Branch.

This time of day was when Shibuya had the heaviest foot traffic. Even though the public disclosure of curses had significantly reduced the number of people on the streets compared to a month ago, a vast number of civilians were still trapped inside the barrier.

The trapped crowd immediately realized that they had likely encountered a curse-related incident. Whether it involved cursed spirits or jujutsu sorcerers, this abnormal situation was clearly connected to one or the other.

"Why is this happening? I just went out to buy something—how did I end up in a curse incident?!"

"Where are the jujutsu sorcerers? Hurry up and save us!"

"Help! I don't want to die!"

Panic erupted among the civilians inside the barrier. Amid the noise and chaos, a clear voice suddenly rang out from somewhere unknown.

"Bring Gojo Satoru here. Until then, no one is allowed to leave."

Upon hearing this, large numbers of civilians crowded against the edge of the barrier, shouting Gojo Satoru's name at the top of their lungs.

The jujutsu world's response was swift. The Japanese government was immediately notified to evacuate the surrounding area, and nearly all grade-three and above sorcerers stationed in Tokyo were dispatched to the outside of the Shibuya barrier.

During this time, many sorcerers attempted to destroy the barrier—but without exception, all of them failed.

"A scheme targeting Gojo Satoru?"

Outside the barrier, Naobito Zen'in looked at the scene before him and spoke.

"Most likely. With such profound mastery of barrier techniques, the mastermind may well be the one who deployed the barrier covering all of Japan," Nanami Kento replied solemnly from the side.

In addition, Kusakabe Atsuya, Mei Mei, and other grade-one sorcerers, along with numerous students from Tokyo Jujutsu High, had all gathered outside the barrier.

Even Yuki Tsukumo and Yuta Okkotsu arrived one after another.

It was clear that the jujutsu higher-ups placed immense importance on this incident. Unfortunately, even Yuki Tsukumo and Yuta Okkotsu—both special-grade sorcerers—could not forcibly break through the barrier, lest they endanger the civilians inside.

A few minutes later, the central figure of this incident finally arrived.

Gojo Satoru.

"According to orders from the higher-ups, I'll be entering the barrier alone to assess the situation. Everyone else will remain outside and adapt as needed."

Gojo Satoru's words caused everyone present to frown.

Knowing full well that the mastermind was targeting Gojo, yet still sending him in alone…

Well, as absurd as it sounded, coming from those higher-ups who regarded Gojo as a thorn in their side, it somehow felt entirely normal.

"The enemy behind this incident possesses extremely advanced barrier techniques. They're very likely the same mastermind who deployed the barrier over all of Japan," Nanami Kento reminded him.

"No need to worry. No matter what kind of scheme they're plotting, I won't let them succeed."

Gojo waved his hand nonchalantly, then stepped forward toward the interior of the barrier.

Not far behind him, the students—especially Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro—watched with anxious expressions.

"Gojo-sensei, you have to win!"

With his back to the crowd, Gojo Satoru wore a relaxed smile, his voice firm and confident.

"I will."

The calm voice reached everyone's ears. In the very next moment, Gojo Satoru's figure was completely swallowed by the barrier.
