Chapter 1 - Chapter One:

Alicia walked down the road unmindful of her drenched clothes. All her dreams shattered in one day. What did she do to deserve this? She questioned herself.

As she walked by a coffee shop, she walked in an sat down still in her drenched clothing.

A man reading a news paper was the only person in the coffee shop. He looked at her without her noticing, he knew potential clients when he saw one.

Alicia's thoughts drifted back to the morning.

She had just put on her graduation clothes and had light makeup on. She was wondering how pleased Damien would be seeing her.

"You look so beautiful Alicia." Her best friend Anthonia said smiling at her, "am sure Damien will not be able to take his eyes off you", she added teasingly.

"You look beautiful too," Alicia replied with a smile.

Alicia had a petite figure and a beautiful face, her brown eyes and long black hair made it hard for anyone to resist her.

After the graduation, she had a first class in pharmacy. She saw Damien at the graduation party but he didn't even look her way.

She went to look for him, she found him sitting under a three in the school garden- he looked so handsome. He was every girls dream.

"Hey, Damien. I've been looking for you everywhere. Where have you been?" Alicia asked taking a seat next to him.

"I was right here," He replied in a cool low voice.

"Congratulations on your first class in Computer science." Alicia said cheerfully.

"Thank you." He replied in the same voice.

"I have something important to tell you." She said in a serious tone.

"What is it?" He asked finally turning to look at her.

"Am pregnant." Alicia blurted, she had been practicing how to say it but it came out like this so she has no choice than to go with it.

Damien's eyes widened in surprise before turning back to an expressionless one.

"Then get rid of it." He said nonchalantly. He couldn't deny it because he knew Alicia had been with no one else but him and it wasn't in his nature to tell petty lies.

"What do you mean get rid of it?" Alicia asked, her body shaking.

Quietly and slowly he replied, "an abortion."

"Am not doing it." Alicia said getting up and looking him straight in the eye.

"Then am afraid your on your own, I don't have time or what it takes to be a father right now." He said also getting up- staring at her right in the eye before turning to leave.

"Wait," Alicia called out to him.

He halted in his tracks without looking back.

"You don't have to do anything, you just need to be present- I'll take care of the rest please." She pleaded with a teary eye.

"No." He answered firmly and started to walk away.

Alicia rushed over and grabbed him by the waist and started sobbing.

"Please don't do this to me, we had so many good times together don't throw it away like this please." She begged.

He peeled off her hands and a black, luxurious Limousin came to view and he stepped inside without looking back.

Alicia fell to the floor and the tears came out in torrents. She was devastated and confused. What would she do. She looked up at the Limousin but it was pitch black and she saw nothing.

Inside the Limousin

"Young master, is the lady not coming with us today?" The chaffeur asked.

"No." Damien replied leaning lasily against the chair, he took one last look at the lady outside and closed his eyes then murmured softly, "let's go."

The driver left.

As the limo left her view, Alicia knew she wouldn't be seeing him anytime soon and going to his house was out of the question.

At the coffee shop,

The man continued to look discreetly at Alicia looking for the right opportunity to talk.

Alicia stood up to leave and the man walked towards her.

"Hello." He said.

"Hi." Alicia replied weakly. Eyes red from crying.

"I understand this isn't the best time to talk but I have a very good offer for you." He said rubbing his chubby hands together.

"What offer." She replied,

"Please sir." He said and she sat.

"It's a job offer at a small province outside town, it's a small province but developing quickly and the pay is good, housing and accomodation is guaranteed." He said observing her carefully, he knew she wasn't going to agree on the spot so he dropped his card on the table and said goodbye.

Alicia looked at the card and finally took it and slipped it into her pocket.

She made her way home,

She knocked gently on the door and her mother came to open.

Her mum was her only family no father, brothers or sisters.

The moment her mum saw her she understood what had happened because Alicia had already told her she was pregnant and that she was going to tell Damien about it. She had been in support because Damien seemed responsible.

She didn't say anything and pulled Alicia in for a hug and led her into the house.
