Chapter 117 - Chapter 120 - The Blitz on Konoha!

In later generations, the shinobi world would give this battle a name that carried both awe and dread:

The Blitz on Konoha.

Kirigakure's Mizukage-Chiba-didn't seek a drawn-out campaign, nor did he bother with the slow choreography of alliances and declarations. He struck with a lightning-war doctrine: fast, merciless, and decisive, turning a political deadlock into a battlefield before anyone could even finish adjusting their assumptions.

It shocked everyone.

Across the shinobi world, people had watched the same scene unfold and reached the same conclusion. Chiba and Hiruzen Sarutobi had arrived at Kumogakure almost at the same time, each trying to bind the Hidden Cloud to their side. The ending seemed obvious: Konoha, under Hiruzen's bowing and scraping, swallowed humiliation after humiliation-ceding interests, offering compensation, signing terms that made even their own people taste blood in the mouth-until Kumogakure finally agreed.

So naturally, everyone believed Chiba would respond by turning to his old ally in Iwagakure and seeking Ōnoki's support.

But that wasn't what he did.

Chiba didn't retreat into diplomacy. He didn't trade letters and promises. He didn't posture.

He simply returned the method Konoha had used on Kirigakure-exactly as they'd taught it, with interest.

As if avenging Konoha's earlier surprise incursion into the Mist, he changed course toward the Land of Fire and launched a retaliatory war that struck like thunder-violent, immediate, and without mercy.

At that very moment, Hiruzen Sarutobi still had no idea.

He was still congratulating himself, still savoring the illusion of security as he signed one humiliating clause after another with Kumogakure. Konoha, too, remained unaware. The village continued its routine, waiting for the Hokage's return, watching the shifting chessboard of the great nations, believing the next crisis would arrive on a schedule they could anticipate.

They never expected what came instead.

They never got Hiruzen back.

They got Chiba's army.

At the outskirts of Konohagakure, patrol squads moved through the trees and along the roads with practiced discipline, scanning the terrain, listening for anything that didn't belong. They were diligent-serious-exactly the kind of shinobi who kept a village alive during peacetime.

Then the ground began to tremble.

A low vibration at first, like distant thunder beneath the earth.

Then it grew-heavier, closer, relentless.

Rumble-! Rumble-!

The sound rose until it felt like the sky itself was cracking open. Trees shook. Dust leapt from the ground. The patrol shinobi stared into one another's eyes and saw the same thing reflected back-raw alarm.

"W-What is that?!"

In the Konoha of the past, the Hyūga clan would have seen this coming long before it reached the gates. With the Byakugan, their perception was unmatched-distance meant nothing, concealment meant little, and surprise attacks died before they were born.

But the Hyūga were gone.

They had defected, and with them went the eyes that had guarded Konoha's perimeter like a living wall.

By the time Konoha's defenders understood what was happening, it was already too late.

A mass of shinobi was surging forward-fast, organized, and murderous.

And at the head of it-

"That… that's-!"

"Kirigakure's Mizukage… Chiba?!!"

"And… Lord Orochimaru… Lady Tsunade…"

"How-how are there so many? Why are they here?!"

Panic hit like a blade.

The patrol unit's discipline cracked under the weight of the impossible. This wasn't a border skirmish. This was a full assault.

"Quick-report to the Hokage!!!"

"You idiot-Hokage-sama is still in Kumogakure! He's not in the village!"

"Then-then report to Jiraiya-sama! To Danzō-sama!"

"Move!"

One shinobi pivoted to run-

-and an ice arrow screamed through the air.

It cut across the sky in a single breath, traveling hundreds of meters with terrifying precision, and punched clean through his chest.

Bang-!

Blood burst out.

His eyes widened, disbelieving, as if his body couldn't accept what had just happened. Then he fell hard, life extinguished before he hit the ground.

The patrol squad froze-then broke.

They weren't cowards, not truly. But they were facing something far beyond their station, and they knew it. Holding the line here would be suicide with no purpose. Their only instinct left was to scatter-to warn whoever could still make decisions.

They fled in all directions, calling it "reporting," praying the village's systems would compensate for their failure.

Within a heartbeat, the patrol line dissolved into nothing.

And in that same breath, Chiba arrived at Konoha's sensory barrier.

He looked at it like a man looking at a thin curtain.

A faint smile touched his lips.

His body shimmered-elementalizing as his devil-fruit power took over-and he slipped through without triggering the barrier, bypassing it with such ease it was almost insulting.

Konoha's defenses never even knew he had entered.

A moment later-

Bang-!

"Kuchiyose no Jutsu ("Summoning Technique")!"

A shockwave of chakra surged outward as the seal snapped into place, and in an instant the forces of Ryūchi Cave poured into Konoha.

Snakes-countless snakes.

Not dozens. Not hundreds.

Tens of thousands.

Massive serpents followed, thick as towers, their coils crushing earth and stone. Among them were elder-level sage snakes-Tagorihime, Ichikishimahime, and Tantsukihime-each radiating an oppressive, alien presence.

And then the air itself seemed to tense.

Because the White Snake Sage appeared as well-summoned once again.

Chiba didn't stop there.

His chakra rose, sharp and cold, and the atmosphere around him changed as senjutsu surged into his veins.

"Senpō ("Sage Art")… Hyōton ("Ice Release")… Hyōsetsu Ryūkihei ("Snow-Dragon Cavalry")!!!"

Two hundred riders formed in an instant.

Not mere constructs, but war-made incarnations-ice statues that moved as if alive, mounted on draconic shapes of frost and blizzard, their presence turning the air into needles.

The snakes of Ryūchi Cave and Chiba's Sage Art ice cavalry erupted forward together, charging into the heart of Konoha like a flood of fangs and winter.

And because Chiba had cast the summoning from inside the sensory barrier, the barrier couldn't warn anyone.

Konoha had no time.

No preparation.

Only the sudden arrival of hell.

A roar of battle shook the heavens, and the assault surged deeper into the village.

In an instant, Konohagakure-peaceful, familiar, breathing through ordinary mornings-was jolted awake as if the apocalypse had arrived. Civilians screamed. Doors slammed. People ran without knowing where safety even was. The entire village convulsed in fear.

Inside the Hokage's office, the atmosphere was already tense even before the first scream reached them.

Because Hiruzen Sarutobi wasn't there.

And because he trusted none of the people he'd left behind enough to let them hold the village alone.

So the temporary burden of leadership had fallen into a tense triangle: Shimura Danzō, Utatane Koharu, and Jiraiya.

Then the shouting outside erupted like a storm breaking open.

"W-What's happening?!" Koharu snapped, her voice sharp with panic.

Danzō's face drained of color as he turned to the window. The moment he saw the scene beyond the Hokage Tower-an ocean of snakes spilling through streets, and the ice cavalry moving like living blizzards-his breath caught.

Jiraiya stepped in beside him, eyes widening.

"That… that's…"

"Kirigakure… Chiba's power?!!"

They had seen it before. They knew what those summons meant. They knew the crushing scale of it, the way it turned a battlefield into a slaughterhouse.

And now it was inside Konoha.

Jiraiya's heart sank. Sensei isn't here. The thought landed like a stone.

"He's striking while the village is empty…" Jiraiya muttered, voice tight. "This is revenge for our own incursion into the Mist…"

He clenched his jaw, anger and dread twisting together. "Returning our own methods to us…?"

Koharu slammed her hand down. "Now is not the time for that!"

"Notify the entire village immediately!" she barked. "ANBU, Root, every clan's elite forces-everyone who can fight must mobilize at full strength and intercept them!"

Jiraiya nodded once, already moving, while Danzō and Koharu exchanged a look that said more than words ever could: This is going to be catastrophic.

Orders flew.

Jiraiya rushed to gather Konoha's backbone-Hatake Kakashi, Might Guy, Yamato-pulling what remained of ANBU and Root into a desperate response force. Koharu scrambled to alert the clans: Sarutobi, Shimura, Aburame, Inuzuka, Nara, Akimichi, Yamanaka-every bloodline that could still put bodies on a battlefield.

And in the span of a few breaths, Konoha's ordinary day shattered into war.

This wasn't a siege that gave you time to adapt.

This was a blade to the throat.

A lightning strike crashing into a village that hadn't even finished waking up.

Chiba, unlike anyone in that world, understood the essence of blitz warfare. He didn't need to "test" defenses. He didn't need to probe. He went for the kill. Fast enough that panic reached the brain after the wound had already opened.

The snakes hit first.

Where Konoha's outer shinobi tried to form lines, they were swallowed. Where they tried to flee, they were hunted. Ordinary ninja-competent, brave, trained-became meaningless against that flood of monstrous chakra.

They died screaming.

They died silent.

Some didn't even understand they were dead until their bodies hit the ground.

Massive serpents tore through streets, their coils smashing walls and roofs like paper. One swing of Manda's tail sent more than a dozen shinobi flying, bodies cracking against buildings as structures collapsed into dust and splinters. Second-generation Manda, Aoda, and the most terrifying of them all-Xinya-joined the slaughter with savage precision.

Xinya was a nightmare given shape: huge, fast, vicious, and impossibly violent. Worse, he carried a petrification ability-spitting a toxic, sticky secretion like venomous sludge. Any shinobi touched by it stiffened instantly, their bodies turning into stone statues mid-motion, eyes wide with terror.

Xinya hissed, and the sky filled with that gleaming, disgusting spray.

The front line froze-literally.

Stone bodies toppled, helpless.

Then Xinya's tail swept through.

Rumble-! Rumble-!

Stone shattered into powder.

And so did the lives inside it.

That was only the "ordinary" snakes.

The three elder sage snakes were beyond that category entirely. At this stage, before Konoha's true elites could even fully arrive, they cut through the battlefield like gods of misfortune. They floated, they vanished, they moved with techniques that ignored common sense-senjutsu that allowed flight, stealth, and oppressive control. Their own unique abilities followed: illusions, chakra devouring, binding techniques that made resistance feel like drowning.

They weren't just strong.

They were unfair.

And then came the real calamity.

The White Snake Sage, newly summoned, unleashed senjutsu the moment it appeared.

"Senpō ("Sage Art")… Mujin Tensei ("Inorganic Reincarnation")!"

The ground answered.

Not metaphorically.

The earth itself flipped-ripping up like something that had been sleeping for a million years and had finally decided to wake. Streets split open into abyssal mouths. Hills buckled. Stone and soil moved like living flesh, opening chasms and biting down with the hunger of a beast.

Screams erupted everywhere.

Shinobi were swallowed whole, pulled under by living terrain, erased so completely it looked like the village itself had eaten them.

And it wasn't only the ground.

Slopes, embankments, rocks, streets-even buildings, even houses-shifted and twisted as if Konoha had become a nightmare painting that moved under its own will.

Konohagakure was devouring itself.

Chiba watched it all with a quiet smile, then stepped onto the head of the enormous white-scaled serpent that served as the Sage's form. From that height, he looked down on the chaos like a man judging a battlefield rather than participating in it.

Then his own senjutsu flared.

He mirrored the same technique.

"Senpō ("Sage Art")… Mujin Tensei ("Inorganic Reincarnation")!"

But when Chiba's power poured into the world, it felt even heavier-colder, denser, more absolute. His control didn't merely copy the Sage's technique; it overwhelmed it, like a stronger will taking the reins of an already raging beast.

With the two of them acting together, the technique's scale exploded.

The battlefield became a single monstrous organism-an enormous, roaring horror under the combined control of Chiba and the White Snake Sage, ripping and biting into Konoha with unstoppable momentum.

Jiraiya arrived with ANBU and Root first.

And what he saw made his blood run cold.

The shinobi who had been holding the outer lines were already gone-slaughtered so quickly it felt like time had skipped. Bodies lay scattered. Streets were torn open. The air stank of blood, dust, and fear.

And above it all, Chiba rode the white serpent like a war god-commanding Ryūchi Cave's countless snakes, commanding the ice cavalry of his own making, as if he'd descended with divine judgment to punish Konoha for its sins.

Jiraiya had fought for decades. He had seen war. He had seen slaughter.

But this-

This was a different scale of terror.

ANBU and Root, hardened by secret missions and bloodshed, looked up at the moving nightmare and felt their courage crack. In front of the raging world-beast created by Mujin Tensei, they were insects in the path of a stampede.

They still attacked.

They launched ninjutsu in desperate waves, slamming fire, wind, lightning, and explosives into the living terrain and monstrous mass.

It didn't matter.

Within moments, what little remained of ANBU and Root was shredded again. They were swallowed. Crushed. Torn apart. Dragged down into new chasms that opened beneath their feet.

Some fell into the depths and vanished, their screams cut off as if the earth had snapped its jaws shut.

Konoha's fear became total.

Then Danzō and Koharu arrived with clan elites and reinforcements.

And the moment they saw it, they reacted exactly as Jiraiya had-stunned, terrified, unable to fully process the fact that this was happening inside their own walls.

Before, when Chiba had "caused trouble" in Konoha, there had always been a stated purpose: rescuing the Uchiha, extracting the Hyūga, striking specific targets. It had been violent, yes, but it had been focused.

This was different.

This wasn't a mission.

This was war.

And it had only one meaning: destruction.

Soon, nearly every shinobi still in the village-everyone not away on missions-had rushed to the front. Jiraiya. Danzō. Koharu. ANBU. Root. Clan elites from the Sarutobi, Shimura, Yamanaka, Nara, Akimichi, Aburame, Inuzuka. Kakashi. Guy. Yamato. Kurenai-faces that normally represented Konoha's stability now forming a desperate line against a disaster that didn't care who they were.

They trembled.

They stared.

They struggled to believe their own eyes.

But there was no retreat left, no illusion left, no political maneuver left.

Only one choice remained.

To fight.

To gamble everything on a single bloody stand.

And at that moment, Chiba gave an order.

The larger forces still outside Konoha-Orochimaru, Tsunade, Guren of Shōton ("Crystal Release"), her strongest subordinates, the Iburī clan, the Guren-backed forces, and the gathered elites of Otogakure-began surging in with a roar that shook the sky. The Sound Four-Tayuya, Jirōbō, Kidōmaru, Sakon and Ukon-alongside Akadō Yoroi, Misumi Tsurugi, Zaku Abumi, Dosu Kinuta, Kin Tsuchi, and countless others, followed in the tide.

Thousands of Otogakure shinobi charged, their killing intent rising like smoke.

The battlefield, already a nightmare, became a storm.

And the war that would reshape shinobi history-

finally exploded in full.
