Savannah's POV

When I turned around, Jonathan and Ethel stood there like ghosts from my past.

The sight of them together hit me harder than I expected. Exhaustion lined their faces, making them appear years older than when I last saw them. Dark circles shadowed their eyes, and their skin had that pale, sickly quality that comes from sleepless nights.

But nothing could distract from the matching gold bands that caught the light on their ring fingers.

So it had been Ethel all along. Jonathan's secret lover was my closest friend. The woman I would have died for had been sleeping with my husband behind my back. I had dismissed that possibility so completely, convinced that Ethel could never betray me in such a devastating way. Now I had no tears left to shed over their deception, no breath left to waste on their lies.
