Nora's POV
I balance the phone between my shoulder and ear while opening the fridge. Dawn broke just hours ago, and James finally returned home, exhausted from his dealings with vampire politics. He's upstairs sleeping, and I hope he's finally resting peacefully for the first time in days. I promised Lena I'd call from the house phone, and I always keep my promises to my sister.
"Hey Lena, how did the rest of your shift go?"
"Quiet after your dramatic entrance last night. Are you feeling better?"
"Much better, actually."
"I keep replaying everything that happened. James seemed relieved you were okay, but honestly, I'm not sure how you survived that attack. The burns should have been much worse."
