Nora's POV
The memory of Kevin's vacant blue eyes hits me like a physical blow, shattering what little composure I have left. My heart fractures again, and this time the pain spreads to my stomach. I barely manage to pull away from Charlette before I'm retching into the grass.
"There, there, sweetheart," Charlette murmurs, gathering my hair away from my face. "Let's get you inside where you can rest. Gideon and I need to check on your house through astral projection."
I drag the back of my hand across my mouth and manage a weak nod. James slides his arm around my waist, taking most of my weight as I lean against him.
"What about the hellhound?" Katherine's voice carries a note of anxiety as she studies Zerra with obvious wariness. The massive, demonic creature would intimidate anyone with sense, even though she follows my commands without question.
"Do you have her collar with you?"
"I didn't think to grab it when we left."
