Nora's POV
Katherine rises from her chair with practiced efficiency, though some of her earlier smugness has already started to fade.
"Everything will work out fine," Charlette reassures me, but my concern isn't for myself right now. Gideon has a demon inside him. Demonic possession rarely allows victims to survive beyond a few days, and even brief exposure can inflict devastating internal harm.
"Am I going to face any complications?" Katherine inquires as she guides me toward the exit of the gathering chamber. I pivot to face her directly.
"Are you being serious right now?"
She lifts her shoulders in a casual shrug. "You've never been one to follow regulations."
I have no energy for this debate. "Gideon's situation is the priority. Just escort me, restrict my abilities, and go assist them immediately."
"He matters to you."
"Doesn't he matter to you?" We move through an expansive stone corridor before turning down a hallway toward Gideon's office.
