Chapter 1 - National Science and Innovation Convention

A tall man in a crisp suit exited the car and made his way to the venue for the National Science and Innovation Convention. This man was none other than Everette Vale, one of the richest men in the capital city.

He founded the Xner group, a leader in fields of technology, communications and entertainment. Not to mention he was an omega, who had overcome all kinds of discrimination to form his company and successful career.

He was here today as one of the primary sponsors of the event and was greeted by a young man who had been designated by the host to guide him through the event.

He set off on his tour, passing by all sorts of new innovations in medicine, robotics, AI, energy and communications technology.

Ten years ago when attending this same convention, he discovered and invested in the communications technology that enabled the Xner group to become what it is today. Every year he makes it a point to invest and personally attend the convention.

Eventually he was led towards the auditorium, where there would be awards presented to the top scientists in each field. As one of the primary sponsors it was his job to present the final award.

Everette was walking towards the backstage door when a flurried young man crashed into him, dropping his bag and spilling the contents all over the floor.

"Oh my goodness I am so sorry," the young man bowed deeply as he apologised. He had long brown hair tied in a pony tail and was wearing a pair of oversized glasses.

"It is fine. Be more careful in the future." Everette was not a petty person, and this young man was clearly sincere in his apology. He sighed and bent down to help the young man, flustering both his guide and the young man.

"No no, I have it, it's okay," and "Mr Vale there is no need to trouble yourself!" came from the young man and Everette's guide respectively.

The three of them began collecting the young man's belongings and helping him put it into his bag.

Everette paused as he picked up and passed over a set of alpha rut suppressors. The young man blushed and shoved them in his bag.

After all his belongings were collected, the young man stood up and checked his watch. It was clearly worn, with a crack in the screen.

"Okay. One minute. I still got time," the young man muttered. He turned to Everette and flashed him a wide smile. "Thank you so much for helping me out!"

He rushed off as fast as he came, leaving behind an Everette who was still a little dazed from that smile. He shook himself off before turning to the guide and gesturing for them to continue.

The guide seemed a little relieved to have survived that interaction. He had heard rumours that despite Mr Vale being an omega he had a terrifying temper and was not to be crossed.

Everette was led to a seat of honour on the stage. The ceremony opened with the usual polite applause, witty remarks from the host, followed by awards presented to leading scientists in fields of physics, chemistry, biology, technology, as well as some more niche awards.

The final award would be presented by Everette to the scientist with the most outstanding contributions over the past year.

He had read through the scientist's portfolio beforehand. The scientist was especially invited from overseas to receive this award, for his groundbreaking research in satellite communications, computing and robotics.

Not to mention he was incredibly young, at only 24 years old. Everette stood up as the host gave his introduction and loudly announced the recipient as "Mattias Blackhorn!"

Applause started as a familiar young man with oversized glasses approached the stage. This was the same young man who had bumped into Everette earlier.

Even coming up to the stage he had this wide, excited smile plastered over his face. He seemed a little embarrassed as he realised who was presenting his award, but still shook hands and received the award. He gave a little bow to the audience before the host led him to the podium for a speech.

Everette didn't pay much attention to the speech, just let the young man's lively and optimistic tone wash over him. Everette was instead distracted by the unexpected encounter.

He never would have guessed the cute young man who had bumped into him earlier was such a renowned scientist. He didn't give off a very capable vibe.

Not to mention now that he viewed him underneath the bright stage lights, his face seemed a little bit familiar. There was something about his features that reminded him of somebody. He just couldn't put his finger on who.

Everette was so distracted by the mystery that he only came too after everyone had moved offstage and the event had concluded.

His guide offered to continue showing him around the convention, but Everette refused. He was too distracted, and he had an important family meeting tomorrow.

It was unlike him to be so distracted by a single young man. Perhaps his heat was near. Either way, he was better off heading home and clearing his mind with a good night's sleep.
