Chapter 3 - Chapter : The Magic Aptitude Test

POV: Jimmy Welton

The palace was unusually quiet that morning.

Servants moved through the halls with care, their voices hushed. Even the knights on duty stood straighter than usual. Something important was about to take place.

I lay calmly in my cradle, my small body helpless—but my mind fully awake.

Today was the day of my magic aptitude test.

In this world, magic was not guaranteed.

Some people were born without it.

Some had weak aptitude, barely able to cast spells.

And a rare few were born with powerful affinity toward one element—or even two.

But those blessed with something beyond that…

They were legends.

The chamber doors opened.

An elderly priest entered first, wearing white robes marked with ancient golden symbols. His presence alone made the room feel solemn He was the one who was there when i woke up in this world the same Priest.

Behind him followed two court mages in deep blue robes.

Then came my parents.

Duke Halfthōr Welton stood tall and composed, while Duchess Elinora Welton watched me with visible concern.

The priest bowed deeply.

"My Lord, my Lady," he said, "the artifact is ready. This test will reveal the child's magical aptitude and elemental affinity."

The Duke nodded.

"Proceed."

I was gently placed at the center of a circular stone platform carved with runes.

The moment my body touched the platform—

The runes reacted.

Light spread across the stone instantly.

The mages stiffened.

"It's already activating…" one whispered.

The priest raised his staff and began chanting. The runes lifted into the air, forming rings of glowing symbols around me.

I felt it.

That unseen presence I had sensed since birth.

Magic.

It responded eagerly, flowing toward me like a tide.

The first rune changed color.

Blue.

"Water affinity," one mage announced.

Before the words settled—

The rune shifted again.

Red.

"Fire as well?!"

Gasps filled the chamber.

Then—

Green Yellow White Wind Earth Light!!

The rings of runes began spinning wildly.

"This is impossible!" a mage shouted. "No child can possess five affinities!"

The platform trembled.

Cracks spread across the stone.

Suddenly, all the colors vanished.

The room went completely silent.

Then—

A new symbol appeared above me.

A deep Gold and-silver sigil, unlike any elemental rune.

The priest's face drained of color.

"…This mark," he whispered, voice shaking, "is not elemental."

The Duke stepped forward.

"Explain."

The priest swallowed hard.

"This child possesses Pure Mana Aptitude."

The mages froze.

"Pure Mana?" one breathed.

"Yes," the priest said slowly. "An aptitude not bound by elements. A foundation that can shape magic itself. Such individuals are not limited by affinity—they can learn any magic."

The silence that followed was heavy.

Then the priest added, voice barely audible—

"Records say… such aptitude appears once in several centuries."

The platform shattered completely.

Magic dispersed.

I was quickly lifted into my mother's arms.

She held me tightly, trembling.

The Duke stared at me with sharp, unreadable eyes.

"A blessing…" he said.

"…or a threat."

I lay quietly, my small fingers curling instinctively.

Inside my mind, a single thought echoed clearly.

Pure Mana.

So that's what I was reborn with.

I closed my eyes.

This time… I won't just survive.

I'll Be strong and live a happy

Life this time .
