Chapter 3 - Chapter 3:Succesful Hunt

"Ga-aaaaaaah!!!"

The Crawfish Devil howled instantly, driven not only by the pain in its antennae but also by the fury of being wounded by a human. In a fit of rage, the Crawfish Devil slammed both of its giant claws down toward Otonashi Senya.

For an ordinary person, escaping such a wide-range strike would be nearly impossible. But Otonashi Senya was no ordinary person. With the motion-tracking and precision-prediction capabilities of his Mangekyo Sharingan, the Crawfish Devil would never be able to touch him.

He even dared to dash forward directly beneath the giant claws; he had already predicted that by the time the claws struck the ground, he would have moved past the impact zone. By closing the distance, he held his katana in an offensive stance.

Watching this, Hayakawa Aki's heart tightened. From his perspective, this was an extremely risky move with a razor-thin margin for error—one mistake could be fatal. While that was true for a normal person (where the success rate might be less than 10%), for Otonashi Senya, it was a guaranteed 100%. There was simply no possibility of failure.

At that moment, Otonashi Senya plunged his katana into the Crawfish Devil's abdomen. The devil's carapace was not full-body; areas like the antennae and the belly lacked armor, allowing a sharp enough blade to deal damage.

Squelch!

The blade was driven deep and then pulled out, causing devil blood to spray violently from the wound. Seeing such smooth and rapid transitions in movement, Hayakawa Aki was momentarily stunned.

Is this guy really a rookie...?

However, Aki quickly snapped out of it. He couldn't just stand and watch; he immediately attacked the Crawfish Devil from behind. Since the back and tail were mostly protected by thick shell, he aimed his katana at the legs—the parts that looked like clusters of human hands.

Because the Crawfish Devil's claws were so heavy, they were slow to lift. Seizing this opening, Otonashi Senya disemboweled the devil. Countless intestines spilled out in a heap, while Aki managed to sever more than half of its legs.

"Aaaaahhhh!!!"

Accompanied by the Crawfish Devil's dying screams, Otonashi Senya delivered the final blow, stabbing upward through the chest cavity into the head. Soon, it stopped moving entirely.

[Ding! Host has successfully hunted the "Crawfish Devil." Gained 9 Attribute Points!]

Naturally, the points rewarded varied by devil; the stronger the devil, the more points earned. The Crawfish Devil wasn't exceptionally powerful, but it wasn't weak either—certainly stronger than something like the Tomato Devil. After all, far more people fear crawfish than tomatoes. Nine points was a reasonable reward.

Furthermore, devils were essentially a "renewable resource" that could never be truly wiped out. When a devil dies, it is reborn in Hell. When it dies in Hell, it reincarnates back into the human world. However, they lose their previous memories during this cycle, which is why it is called reincarnation. Unless eaten by the Chainsaw Devil, they are trapped in an endless cycle of resurrection and rebirth.

"Is it dead for sure?" Hayakawa Aki kicked the corpse to ensure there was no reaction.

"Yeah, it's dead," Otonashi Senya replied. He flicked his katana to clear the blood from the blade before sheathing it.

Throughout the fight, he hadn't used his Kamui ocular technique. He worried that with his current "Vitality" (Qi/Blood) levels, his body would be instantly drained or he might even go blind. However, the basic abilities of the Mangekyo Sharingan were already so formidable that unless he encountered a truly top-tier devil, he didn't need to use a technique with such heavy side effects.

Without hesitation, Otonashi Senya dumped all his allocatable points into his "Vitality" stat.

[Ding! Allocation complete. Vitality +15!]

Vitality: 30

Available Points: 0

His vitality was now three times that of a normal human. This enhanced lifeforce and self-healing gave him a bit more confidence to use the Kamui technique in the future.

"I'll call someone to handle the devil's corpse," Aki said, walking out from under the bridge to make a phone call.

By the time the call was finished, Otonashi Senya had also emerged. Aki looked back and saw that Senya only had a few splashes of blood on him; the dirty water and mud were only on the soles of his shoes. In contrast, Aki looked much worse—his clothes were a mess of mud, filth, and blood, and he smelled terrible.

Aki couldn't help but ask: "Are you... really a rookie?"

"Of course. I just got lucky and signed a contract with a relatively strong devil," Otonashi Senya replied with a humble smile.

From now on, regardless of who he spoke to, he planned to explain his Mangekyo Sharingan as a power granted by a devil contract. He would never let anyone know about the System or the truth behind "Kamui." After all, even with double Kamui, the ability wasn't entirely without flaws... there was still a tiny weakness. While the weakness of a single Kamui was negligible and the double version made it almost non-existent, it was better to be cautious.

It was difficult to compare the power scales of Naruto and Chainsaw Man. The abilities of beings like the Darkness Devil, Control Devil, and War Devil were so abstract that even with double Kamui, he didn't dare be overconfident.

"I see."

Aki subconsciously glanced at Otonashi's eyes. He sensed that the devil's power had transformed Otonashi's eyes and granted him strength, which was evident from his extraordinary vision and combat performance. He assumed the price for this power must be quite high...

Little did he know, this was just the basic capability of the Mangekyo Sharingan. Otonashi Senya paid no price at all, and the true power of "Kamui" went far beyond this!
