The group quickly formed a formation and started running away.
"Good guys! If we keep this up, we can definitely escape together."
The wolves had already begun their full-on chase; they were faster than their bipedal group and were quickly on their tails.
Cassian had positioned himself at the back of the group; if he could protect them somehow, then it would be worth it.
What he did not expect was yet another boot kicking him to the ground.
It was the short, brown-haired boy, "Save us some time, F-rank!"
Cassian quickly looked to see the others' reactions.
They were all running forward, but some turned their heads back.
A guy smiling evilly.
A girl who looked down on him, scowling at him.
Angelica turned with eyes wide, but then her face turned cold, and she faced forward again.
Then the wolves caught him and immediately began tearing him apart.
A dozen wolves clawed and chewed every part of his body, and he felt all the pain vividly because of his skill.
Meanwhile, his eyelids drooped not in pain, but in depression.
Then another internal battle began.
'Are these the people you want to protect?'
The voice sounded so empathetic, like it cared about him.
"Not all people are like them." He responded coldly.
'Are you sure about that?'
"Yes, there might not be any in my school besides Alizée, but people outside the school aren't like this."
'I see, you must be right about that…'
'But…'
'You tried to protect these people, and they abandoned you…'
"And... what does that mean?"
He already knew the answer.
'Do you still need to protect these people?'
"…"
'Do you still need to listen to their rules?'
"..."
'Do you still need to endure the suffering they spell upon you?'
'You have more important responsibilities to the human race; you should be able to deal with these people yourself.'
"No, I must protect people."
'You can deal with it like a human, after all, any person can fight for what is right. Your responsibilities with humans do not interfere. The things these people did are bad, don't they deserve justice?'
"You're right."
Cassian opened his eyes; the wolves were still eating him, and there were more waiting for a slice.
These were not the evil, cursed wolves that Cypher had set upon him. They were all just normal willow wolves around level five.
"EAT ALL YOU WANT."
His flesh regenerated again and again, but the wolves' stomachs were not bottomless. Eventually, one had eaten too much and stopped attacking him for a second. He used that opportunity to attack.
…
The sun had risen, and there was a pile of wolf corpses around Cassian. His clothes were ripped, and he was covered in blood, but otherwise, he had no injuries.
He had even levelled up twice and almost three times.

His gains were too much. But most important were his attribute point and his skill levels.
He had gained a point of penetration, which was very useful.
Three of his skills had leveled up, and sword slash had done so twice. He did not know if any of the skills leveled up because of his level or if they were upgraded due to his own understanding.
He quickly added both of his points to Intelligence and started searching.
Wrapped around a tree, a stonethrows away, he found the Elite Willow Wolf. It had clean silver fur with blood trailing down from its mouth. Its size was similar to a large pick-up truck.
"You should be worth at least five hundred points."
As Cassian approached, the wolf raised its head and locked its eyes onto him.
In close quarters with the monster, he confirmed that it had a demonic energy to it. Extremely evil in nature and deliriously bloodthirsty.
The wolf stood on all of its paws, trying to intimidate Cassian with its height. It slowly licked its lips of blood; not a single moment did it shift its eyes away.
He looked up at its health bar, sporting 750 hit points; the old him would have taken at least 39 hits, not including its defense.
Suddenly, he burst forward and attacked it with a sword slash.

It would only take 34 sword slashes to fell the beast.
The wolf immediately responded to the slash by trying to swipe him with its claw.

Cassian got flung away, but not without his own counterattack.

He had brought his sword to his side to make the wolf stab itself as it attacked him.
After rising to his feet, he noticed that the wolf had started to show its teeth.
"Okay, let's both get serious."
The wolf dashed towards him and tried to take a bite out of him.
He dodged towards the side and cut its body twice using a sword cut as it passed him.

The wolf's head started to lower slowly, no longer tall and proud, but hanging low and malicious.
It dashed towards him once more and tried to bite him. Cassian dodged, but the wolf did not continue moving forward; it stayed in place.
Then it quickly followed up with a swipe of its claws.
Cassian once again held his sword so that they would both take the blow.

This time, the claws actually impaled him. He felt the sharp pain that came with whatever demonic power it had.
This confirmed it; it felt the same as the wolves Cypher had stuck on him.
'Can Cypher really not interact with the human realm?'
'Has he been lying to me all along?'
'Did he lie about our deal?'
