Chapter 9 - Pact with Darkness chapter eight

"Hello, Shiros... Listen, boy, I used to see you searching in the garbage several times, and I saw you talking with the homeless in ragged clothes and a dirty body. It pained my heart. I regretted kicking you out at first. Please forgive me."

"Uncle, it's fine. I'm in good condition now. The important thing is, I desperately want to sleep on a bed. How much for a single room?"

"Hehe, Shiros, most of the rooms in my inn are empty, so you'll stay here for free as compensation and as an offering to your pure mother's soul. I also invite you to have lunch and dinner on the ground floor where my house is. I have a daughter your age; you'll be close friends, I'm sure."

"Fine, uncle, I won't try to refuse at all, hahaha."

Afterward, Shiros headed to the room he would live in from now on, but he saw a sight that was extremely wonderful.

A bed.

"This is wonderful. Finally, I'll sleep, finally I'll sleep."

A week passed quickly.

Shiros did nothing useful; he was busy with feelings of happiness. Life was perfect for him: a warm room, a soft bed, a full pocket, and free lunch and dinner, and it seemed all this would continue. But he soon felt bored with this, so thoughts related to his future goals returned to the forefront of his mind. He had already made his firm decision: he must be a sorcerer, and since he couldn't learn sorcery legally, he would be just a warlock. But according to his friends, dealing with demons is much more fun than with gods who coldly and cruelly ignore the poor's requests while scoundrels continue to live (as Shiros always says). But there was a big gap: he didn't know where to start.

That night, Shiros was sitting at the dinner table in the innkeeper's house, named Raoul. There were four people around the table: Shiros, the innkeeper Raoul, his wife, and the innkeeper's daughter named Sarah.

The table had a plate of a delicious dish: chicken liver in sauce.

While the family was eating, Shiros was stealing glances at Sarah, who was still embarrassed by his presence and didn't raise her eyes to look at Shiros, who said: "Your food is very delicious, auntie. Eating it every day is truly bliss."

The mother replied: "Don't worry, boy. As long as you stay with us, you'll eat it every day—perhaps even after marrying Sarah, haha."

Shiros's face turned red, as did Sarah's, but the mother and Raoul laughed hard, for playing with the teenagers' emotions was fun for them, and indeed, it seemed they had such intentions.
