Chapter 72: Because I'm Not Stupid
"What do we do?"
Several enormous white snakes tightly surrounded Li Jiexuan. The smallest one stared straight at him, saliva practically dripping from its mouth. "Can we eat him?"
"No!"
The largest white snake gave a firm answer. Picking up a piece of white snake shed skin, it shook its head. "This is the ancestor's skin. It still carries its scent."
"But according to the rules, only those who pass the three trials are allowed to meet the ancestor!"
The white snake in the middle raised a different objection. "We can't break the rules the ancestor set!"
Hearing this, the largest white snake suddenly slammed its tail. "If we can't eat him and can't send him in directly, then let him go through the trials!"
Li Jiexuan had almost no right to choose, but this was already the best possible outcome…
Li Jiexuan was sent into the first trial!
"Welcome to Ryūchi Cave!"
A beautiful songstress nodded and smiled at Li Jiexuan. The bright, luxurious hall was filled with exquisite delicacies, their rich aromas making it impossible to resist.
Faced with such a feast, anyone who had trekked here in exhaustion would almost instinctively start stuffing themselves…
"But if I do that, I'll be falling right into the trap of the White Snake—Tagitsuhime!"
Li Jiexuan curled his lip in disdain and knocked all the food to the ground. "I'm not eating!"
With that single declaration, the illusion instantly shattered. The radiant palace and mouthwatering delicacies vanished, and the sweet, charming songstress transformed into a horrifying half-human, half-snake being.
This songstress was none other than one of the upper echelons of Ryūchi Cave—Tagitsuhime!
"You little brat, why are you completely unmoved by my food?" Tagitsuhime split her mouth into a wide grin. Her terrifying fangs hovered above Li Jiexuan's head, as if they could clamp down at any moment…
"Because I feel like it!"
Li Jiexuan snorted dismissively. These white snakes were indeed powerful, but as high-ranking members of Ryūchi Cave, there was absolutely no chance he could successfully form a blood contract with them.
Since that was the case, there was no need for Li Jiexuan to give her any face at all…
"Ah! I'm furious!"
Tagitsuhime clenched her fists, itching to swallow Li Jiexuan in one bite. But bound by the rules, she could only watch as he headed toward the next trial.
"Big sister, don't worry. There's no way he could tell that was an illusion. Maybe he just wasn't hungry, that's why he didn't eat your illusionary food."
The loli-looking Ichikishimahime stuck out her long snake tongue. "Once he reaches my trial, there's no way he'll crack its secret! I'll eat him and avenge you, big sister."
With Tagitsuhime's abilities, Li Jiexuan really hadn't seen through the illusion—but unfortunately for her, Li Jiexuan had read Boruto…
The second trial was an enormous stone that couldn't be pushed open by human strength. However, the stone was riddled with holes, and countless gemstones were scattered around it…
"A puzzle game!"
Li Jiexuan grimaced in irritation. Even when he watched Boruto, he had already felt this trial was kind of brain-dead—but this was seriously next-level stupidity…
"There are countless gemstones here. You need to find the ones that fit."
Ichikishimahime floated nearby, cheerfully flicking her snake tongue. "When you're exhausted, I'll eat you!"
Unfortunately for her, Li Jiexuan didn't bother searching for suitable gems at all. He simply grabbed a gemstone, crushed it with his hand, and shoved the pieces in according to the shape…
One minute later, the massive stone mechanism slowly rose up!
"How is this possible…"
Ichikishimahime stared in shock, her mouth hanging open. "Why didn't you look for the right gemstones?"
Hearing this, Li Jiexuan stopped, turned around, and looked at Ichikishimahime with a strange expression. He nodded solemnly, enunciating each word clearly:
"Because I'm not stupid!"
"..."
After a long silence, and only once Li Jiexuan had gone far away, Ichikishimahime suddenly snapped back to her senses.
"Was he calling me stupid?"
Damn it!!!
