Alpha kasper's pov

"Father, why are you trying to force me into getting married? I thought all these things were supposed to be fated," I said, leaning back in the plush chair of the private dining room.

The atmosphere in the Grand Orion Hotel was stifling, filled with the scent of expensive polish and the distant sound of a string quartet that I already wanted to silence. We were waiting for Alpha Kian and his daughter to arrive, a meeting I had tried to avoid for weeks.

I sat with my legs crossed, my heavy wooden staff resting against the side of the table next to me. I didn't actually need a staff to walk—my strength was perfectly intact—but I wanted to give a false impression. I wanted whatever girl walked through those doors to see a weak, broken man and reject me on the spot. It would save me the trouble of doing the rejecting myself.
