Knock knock. I open the door and the kid that was with Bridge William is infront of my door, his face showing his bones underneath his skin, his eyes not showing any emotion. He is completely different from Rudd.
"Yes?" I say still half asleep. I have to go to the rat man today.
"Bridge William instructed me to take care of you for today, are you ready?"
I nod, it's not like i can do much to be prepared.
I walk beside him.
"What's your name?" I ask him.
"Marv" he says with his hands behind his back.
"My name is Thomas, you can call me Tomh" i nicely say to him. Why do they use kids as their personal assistent?
"I know, also Bridge William told to limit contact between you two, he will not be here for long but if you need him you can talk with one between Symon, Alfred or the boss, this are people you know now and are enough trusted" he says like a machine, repiting words he heard.
Well he does a good job.
Marv turns left and knocks on a wooden door, the door opens and Symon appears with usual suit and sharp nose. He nods at Marv, the kid walks away and Symon indicates with his head to come in. I enter inside, the room is long with desk on both sides, people are reading, writing or talking with each other. Is this the room when i entered?
Symon walks towards a desk to his right and sits down, i sit beside him.
"You will work with me from now on" he says taking a pen and writing on a piece of paper.
"Im not with Alfred anymore?" Not that im complaining.
He shakes his head "you are with me now, here is where we usually stay, when we need to study, work or talk with other people, there are doors on the middle of the room, from there there are other small rooms with a similar porpurse" he puts the pen down "you need to remember this, if you work under me and i give a task and you are doing it i need to know where you are, and this is the place"
I nod. With no phones it is sure difficult.
"There are other places, but as we work together i will show you, just do not wander too much"
He folds the letter and puts it in his pocket, he gets up. "Let's go now"
"Do i need to bring something specific?" I ask him while getting up.
"Just your complete attention to me and to what i say"
"Of course boss" i jokingly say.
"Im not the boss" he says in a serious tone.
I've gotten so lucky with my instructors, two lunatics and now him.
I look around but don't see Agnes. I guess she is not reading the book.
We walk out of the structure and back to the tunnels. The old man not appearing.
We walk out of the tunnel, the wind blows in my face. I inhale. Ahhh some air, it is still shit but at least outside.
The sky is clear, people are walking, Symon turns left "let's go to the more lively part of town, it isn't too safe here"
A woman has a basket, her child following behind, a man is walking with his hands in his pockets.
It is mostly abbandoned houses but it doesn't seem so bad.
As we walk, the street becomes busier, the houses grow taller, three to four floors, the smell of shit and piss fills my nostril. Me and Symon walk in between people, sometimes brushing shoulders. "If you something valuable keep it close" he says to me. I don't have nothing don't worry.
On my left a path opens up, a river appears in front of my eyes, the color more brown than blue, some men are on boats chatching fishes, women near a bridge are washing clothes. All the women's have white clothes. I never saw this part of the city, i thought it would be only small houses and shops.
Symon enters a store, there is a sign of a hammer on a piece of wood.
On the sides there are metal pieces, infront there is a counter, behind it man with long black hairs, with a imposing belly talking with a teen. Symon ignores them and walk behind the counter, towards the door. I try to ignore them and follow Symon. Behind it there is a table in the middle of the room and another door.
Near the table is sited... Leon, i think. He has a mole near his nose. He smiles "we still didn't catch up"
"Let's not waste time brother" Symon says sitting down, i sit in between them.
"Alright" he scoffs "i looked through, i think the best option is the guy living nearby, near the bridge, i confirmed he lives alone"
"Yeah we will be both there, also he has awakened his core, so he isn't exposed" Symon says to Leon, he opens his eyes and looks at me "did you really? When?"
"Yesterday" do i really have to talk about it?
"How did you do it?" He eagerly asks.
I look at Symon, "don't ask such stupid questions, also, he has a unique ability" thank you for helping me but... Couldn't you have not told him.
Leon opens his mouth "i would have never guessed, you should have done it before" mhh i was thinking about a bigger reaction.
"What is it?" He looks at Symon "and we need to know, so don't stop me" Symon dosen't say nothing but looks at me.
I exhale, looks like I can't really keep it a secret anymore.
"If i open my palm i can take the air around a person, but... I cannot use it freely yet"
Both Symon and Leon seem confused, "this is similar too..." Leon stops speaking, he looks at Symon, a look of understanding. Damn you Bridge William, what do i say now?
