Chapter 32 - The Road to Disaster

JAY JAY POV

After everything that happened in the bathroom, we finally stepped out and got ready.

Keifer said he wanted to take me somewhere, so I dressed quickly, and soon we were in the car.

His hand rested on my thigh, warm and steady.

"Love you, Jay," he said softly.

I nodded, smiling. "I love you too."

Then my phone rang.

Jare.

I groaned and answered. "What do you want?"

"Jay, where are you?" Jare asked, his voice unusually serious.

"I'm with Keifer," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Jay… are you two in the car right now?"

"Yeah. What's your problem?"

There was a pause — too long.

"Jay, tell Keifer to stop the car and go somewhere safe," Jare said, his tone sharp and urgent.

My stomach tightened. "Jare, what is your problem?"

"Jay, turn it on speaker," Jare said, his voice sharp.

I did what he said.

"Keifer, get out of the car and go somewhere safe," Jare ordered.

Keifer frowned. "Jare, we're in the middle of nowhere."

"Asshole, where are you two going?" Jare snapped.

"We're going to the beach near your house," Keifer answered.

"In the middle of nowhere but you're nearby—what the hell does that even mean? Keifer, explain it clearly!" Jare yelled, frustration spilling through the phone.

Keifer sighed, gripping the steering wheel tighter.

"Okay, listen," he said. "We left your neighborhood, took the long road behind the hill, and we're heading toward the private beach your family owns. There's nothing around us except trees and empty road. That's what I meant by 'middle of nowhere.'"

He glanced at me, worry starting to creep into his eyes.

"We're not lost," he added. "We're just on the quiet route."

Jare exhaled sharply on the other end.

"Jay, Keifer—pull over. Right now."

My heart dropped.

Keifer's jaw tightened. "Jare, what's going on?"

We didn't even get the chance to hear his answer.

A truck suddenly swerved into our lane.

"KEIFER!" I screamed, grabbing his hand so tightly my nails dug into his skin.

"JAY‑JAY, WHAT IS HAPPENING?!" Jare's voice exploded through the speaker, panicked and distant.

Keifer's eyes shot forward.

The truck was coming fast — too fast.

He jerked the wheel, trying to move us out of the way, but the road was narrow, boxed in by trees on both sides. There was nowhere to go.

"Hold on," he muttered, voice tight with fear.

Everything happened in a blur.

The truck slammed into us.

The world snapped sideways — metal twisting, glass shattering, the seatbelt cutting into my shoulder as the impact threw us violently. The sound was deafening, a single, crushing roar that swallowed everything.

My head hit something.

The world spun.

The phone flew out of my hand.

Keifer shouted my name — or maybe I imagined it — before everything dissolved into white noise and darkness.

The last thing I heard was Jare's voice — loud, terrified, breaking through the chaos.

"JAY‑JAY!"

Then everything went quiet.

My eyes shut on their own, heavy and uncontrollable, like someone had pulled a curtain over the world.

KEIFER POV

After the truck hit us, everything was upside down — literally.

The car had flipped, metal groaning, glass everywhere.

Jay‑Jay was next to me.

Not moving.

"Jay‑Jay… please, baby, wake up," I whispered, shaking, trying to reach her through the twisted seatbelt.

Nothing.

Her head was resting against the shattered window, and I saw something dark on her hairline. My chest tightened painfully.

"Jay… please," I begged, brushing her cheek with trembling fingers. "Open your eyes."

My own head throbbed. My vision kept blurring in and out, and when I touched my forehead, my hand came away wet. I didn't need to look to know I was hurt too.

The phone was still on speaker somewhere on the ceiling — or the floor — I couldn't tell anymore.

"KEIFER, WHAT IS HAPPENING THERE?!"

Jare's voice was frantic, echoing through the wreck.

I couldn't answer. My throat felt tight, my breath uneven.

Then I saw movement outside.

A man climbed out of the truck.

He walked toward us.

And when he stepped close enough, I finally saw his face clearly.

"Dylan… and Keizer," I whispered, hoping Jare could hear even a little.

"KEIFER, SPEAK LOUDLY, DAMN IT! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" Jare yelled.

"Please tell me Jay is fine—please—"

I looked at her again.

Her eyes were still closed.

My vision burned, not just from the pain but from the fear clawing at my chest. I had to tell them who did this. I had to make sure someone knew.

I reached toward the dashboard — or what was left of it — because I remembered the paper inside. If I couldn't speak, I could at least write.

My fingers shook as I grabbed the pen and scribbled the names:

Dylan

Keizer

I folded the paper and slipped it into Jay's pocket with whatever strength I had left.

"Wake up… please, Jay," I whispered, cupping her cheek with my shaking hand.

"KEIFER! SPEAK!" Jare screamed through the phone, voice cracking.

But everything around me was fading — the sound, the light, even the pain.

And Jay still wasn't waking up.

My heart was pounding so hard it hurt. I tried to blink the blur out of my eyes, but everything kept doubling, fading in and out like a broken camera.

Then I saw him.

Dylan.

He was walking toward the car, slow and steady, like he had all the time in the world.

My vision swam, but I could still make out his face — that cold, satisfied look.

I tried to move. Tried to reach for Jay. Tried to do anything.

But my body felt heavy, pinned, slipping.

Before everything went dark, I heard his voice — distant, cruel, echoing through the wreck.

"Yeah… she's dead."

Something inside me snapped.

I wanted to grab him.

I wanted to tear him away from the car.

I wanted to protect Jay with everything I had left.

But my vision collapsed, the world tilting into black.

And then there was nothing.

Just darkness swallowing me whole.

JARE POV

"Damn it!" I shouted, already sprinting toward my car.

Percy jumped up from the couch. "Jare, what happened?"

"It's Jay and Keifer," I said, breath shaking, keys slipping in my hand.

Percy didn't waste a single second.

His face dropped, all the color draining out.

"I'm coming," he said, no hesitation, no questions.

He ran after me, yanking open the passenger door and slamming it shut as soon as he got in.

I turned the engine on so fast the tires screeched.

"Jare—what did you hear?" Percy asked, voice tight.

I gripped the wheel so hard my knuckles went white.

"Percy… I had some information that Jay was in trouble because of Eden," I said, my voice low, tight, barely holding together.

Percy's head snapped toward me.

"What do you mean trouble?"

I pressed harder on the gas, the engine roaring.

"I didn't want to believe it," I said, jaw clenched. "I thought it was just rumors. Someone said Eden was planning something… that she wasn't done with Jay."

Percy's breathing hitched.

"Jare—why didn't you tell us sooner?"

"Because I didn't have proof," I snapped, then forced myself to breathe. "I didn't want to scare Jay for nothing. I didn't want to start a war."

Percy swallowed hard, eyes wide with fear.

"But now?"

I shook my head, heart pounding.

"Now I think it's real. And I think Jay and Keifer just got caught in it."

The road blurred past us as I pushed the car faster.

"Hold on, Jay," I whispered.

"Where are they now?" Percy asked, voice shaking.

"He said he was taking Jay on a trip to the beach," I said, replaying Keifer's words in my head, every second of that call stabbing at me. "They were already on the road when I called."

Percy's breath caught. "And then?"

"Then I heard a c–car crash," I said, my voice cracking despite how hard I tried to hold it together. "Keifer was trying to say something but he couldn't. His voice kept cutting out."

My grip tightened on the wheel again, knuckles turning pale.

"I think he was trying to warn me," I whispered. "I think he was trying to tell me who hit them."

Percy stared at me, horrified.

"Jare… hurry."

"I'm already going as fast as I can," I muttered, pushing the car harder, the engine roaring beneath us.

The road blurred past, but all I could hear was the last sound from the call—

Jay's scream.

Keifer's panic.

And then nothing.

"Please," I whispered, barely breathing.

"Jay… Keifer… hold on."

The tires screeched as I turned the last corner, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it might break through my ribs.

"Jare—" Percy whispered, voice trembling. "Please tell me that's not—"

But it was.

The car.

Jay and Keifer's car.

Upside down in the middle of the road, metal crushed in, glass scattered everywhere like broken stars.

I slammed the brakes so hard Percy lurched forward.

For a second, neither of us moved.

We just stared.

Then everything inside me snapped.

"JAY!" I shouted, throwing the door open and sprinting toward the wreck.

Percy was right behind me, his footsteps uneven, breath shaking.

The closer we got, the worse it looked. The front was smashed in, the roof dented, smoke curling from the engine. The world felt too quiet, too still, like it was holding its breath.

"Jay‑Jay!" I yelled again, voice cracking as I dropped to my knees beside the shattered window.

Percy circled to the other side, his hands shaking as he tried to pull at the bent door.

"Keifer!" he shouted. "Keifer, can you hear me?"

No answer.

My chest tightened painfully.

I leaned down, trying to see inside through the broken glass.

And then I saw her.

Jay.

Still.

Unmoving.

Her hair falling over her face, her seatbelt twisted, her eyes closed.

"Jay…" My voice broke. "Jay, monkey, please—please wake up."

Percy's voice cracked from the other side. "Jare—Keifer's not moving either."

My stomach dropped.

I reached into the car, brushing Jay's cheek with trembling fingers.

"Jay‑Jay, please," I whispered. "Open your eyes. I'm here. I'm right here."

But she didn't move.

Percy's breath hitched. "Jare… we need help. Now."

I forced myself to breathe, forced my shaking hands to pull out my phone.

But before I could dial, something caught my eye.

A piece of paper sticking out of Jay's pocket.

I froze.

Slowly, carefully, I pulled it free.

Two names were written on it in shaky handwriting.

Dylan

Keizer

My blood ran cold.

Percy saw my face. "Jare… what is it?"

I swallowed hard, my voice barely a whisper.

"They did this."

"Jare, take Keifer. I'll take Jay," Percy said, already moving toward her side of the wreck.

I nodded, even though my whole body felt like it was shaking from the inside out.

To be honest, Keifer was heavy — too heavy for Percy to lift in his state — so I grabbed him under the arms and pulled with everything I had. Percy did the same with Jay, holding her like she was made of glass.

We got them into my car, laying them across the back seats as gently as we could.

I slammed the door shut and jumped into the driver's seat.

Percy was already dialing everyone.

"Guys—listen—Jay and Keifer were in a crash," he said, voice breaking. "We're taking them to the hospital now. Just get there. Please."

I didn't wait for the call to end.

I floored the gas.

The car shot forward, engine roaring, the road blurring beneath us.

"Percy, try to wake both of them," I said, gripping the wheel so tightly my hands hurt.

Percy nodded, twisting around in his seat to reach them.

"Jay? Jay‑Jay, baby sistah, wake up," he whispered, tapping her cheek gently.

No response.

He turned to Keifer.

"Keifer—come on, man—wake up."

Percy suddenly yelled, "Keifer—Jay is pregnant!"

I nearly swerved the car. "Idiot, what?!"

Percy didn't even look at me. "It'll work on Keifer!"

And the worst part?

He wasn't wrong.

We both knew it was impossible.

They just made out yesterday so its impossible

Percy wasn't trying to tell the truth.

He was trying to shock Keifer awake.

Because Keifer would drag himself back from the edge of death if he thought Jay needed him.

Percy leaned over the seat again, tapping Keifer's cheek, voice shaking.

"Come on, man. Wake up. Jay needs you."

I gripped the wheel tighter, my heart pounding so hard it hurt.

"Percy," I muttered, "just keep trying. Don't let either of them fall asleep."

Percy nodded, swallowing hard.

"I know," he whispered. "I'm not losing them. Not today."

The hospital was still miles away.

And every second felt like it was slipping through our fingers.

We finally reached the hospital
