Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Merfolk

Ling Hong had been poisoned by a snake; both he and the Clan Leader had seen it with their own eyes. The venom of a Fifth Rank Beastman was something not even the Witch Doctor in their tribe could cure. Within two days, Ling Hong would surely be dead!

But the reality was, Ling Hong had been stable for the past two days. There was no news of his death, and in fact, quite a few Beastmen had even seen him!

'Something must have gone wrong!'

This inconspicuous female became the primary suspect.

Although he didn't believe this useless female had the ability to treat Ling Hong, seeing how much she cared about the herbs in her hands, he could be certain that Ling Hong's recovery was definitely related to these worthless weeds!

He had to destroy Ling Hong!

Destroy everything that stood in the way of his own rise to power!

The man's eyes were bloodshot, his mind clouded by years of repressed ambition and rage.

He launched a sudden attack, his palms turning into claws. A pair of sharp, black-furred claws instantly lunged toward her, knocking her to the ground.

There was a river dozens of meters wide right beside them. Without a second thought, he grabbed the frail female by the hair and dragged her step by step to the bank. With his powerful arms, he forced her head down, submerging it completely in the water.

Once…

Twice…

Water flooded her mouth and nose. Droplets splashed as the suffocation brought with it an unprecedented sense of death.

As time passed, the struggles of the female in his grasp grew weaker and weaker, until they stopped completely...

He grinned with satisfaction and tossed the female into the river like a piece of trash. Watching as she sank bit by bit, gradually vanishing into the distance, he finally relaxed and walked away.

'Ling Hong,' he thought, 'let's see if you can survive long enough for your wounds to heal without this stupid female to run your errands.'

...

...

COUGH, COUGH...

An Jin couldn't open her eyes. The strong current had filled her mouth and nose, and the buzzing in her ears gradually faded to silence.

An Jin had a good water attribute.

But the male had forced so much water into her that her lungs had long since been overwhelmed.

The icy water flowed over her body as she gradually sank deeper.

Powerless to resist.

'I lived for so long in my past life, but I never could have predicted how treacherous this world would be.'

'This world is uncivilized, reckless, and barbaric. The Beastmen here have no reverence for life, no concept of right and wrong when it comes to killing.'

Now, on the brink of death, she finally, regretfully, understood—there were no laws here, no respect for life. If you offended someone, you could be killed.

The irony was that just as she had arrived in this world and grasped this lesson, there was no longer any turning back.

Her body continued to sink, and the last vestiges of consciousness in her mind slowly faded away…

In the clear, quiet river, a fishtail swept silently by, kicking up a thin layer of sand. Startled, the small fish scattered in a panic, the school instantly dispersing.

A pair of arms, as pale and flawless as jade and almost translucent, reached through the swaying waterweeds and past the unsettled plankton, precisely catching the small, slowly sinking figure.

A pair of cool, slick hands with thin webbing between the fingers held her firmly in an embrace. A sea-blue fishtail swayed across the sand and stones of the riverbed, yet remained utterly unstained by the silt.

Amidst the swirling currents, the devastatingly handsome, slender blue figure gently brought forth a glowing Jade Pearl. He pried open her tightly sealed lips and placed the Jade Pearl inside her mouth.

Seeing that she had not yet woken up, his slender, jade-like fingertips poked her cheek gently, both restlessly and curiously. A trace of confusion and panic flickered in his stunning, azure eyes.
