Caesar would often tell Sang Luo he wanted a child during their most intimate moments. But in truth, he was well aware that having offspring would likely be difficult for him. Yet, Sang Luo's recent unusual behavior made him suspect, more and more, that she was pregnant.
"It hasn't come for you this month," Caesar said. "It's already past the sixteenth. For the last two months, it's arrived by now."
It took Sang Luo a moment to realize he was talking about her period. Her eyes widened, and she mumbled, "How do you remember more clearly than I do?"
"Of course I keep track. Those few days are inconvenient for you, so I make sure to be considerate." The days following a female's heat were when conception rates were highest. Males would fight tooth and nail for mating rights, so remembering a female's fertile period and lavishing her with attention had basically become an instinct etched into their genes.
