Chapter 5 - Quirk Apprehension Test

"Put on your track suits, we're going to the field." He stated as he left his yellow sleeping bag.

Ochaco raised her hand, "Isn't there an orientation?"

"You're here to become heroes, we don't need to waste our time doing that." He shot that down.

"..." The class went silent at this.

"What are you waiting for, go change." He urged in a monotone voice and the class quickly complied.

...

The class regrouped outside, fidgeting nervously.

Mina was the first to speak, "So, what are we doing?"

"We are going to be doing quirk apprehension tests." Sensei said and he looked to me.

"Hanabi Hagakure, you scored the highest on the exam, what did you get for your ball throw last year?"

"140-ish meters." This was better than average.

"Good, now do it with your quirk." He tossed the ball to me and I caught it.

"Aight." I positioned myself in the circle.

I started with removing the gravity as I pulled back my arm, followed by me throwing it with all my strength and using the nearby air to propel it along with using the drag as a boost.

*WOOSH*

Izawa sensei looked at the device in hand as it flashed a bunch of numbers, ending on infinite.

'I may have sent it to orbit... oops?'

"Now for the rest of you, but I will also warn you." He took on a serious tone, "The worst of you will be expelled."

*gasp(s)*

"Can he do that?" Mina asked me in a hushed tone.

"He's done it before." My answer didn't help her at all as she started sweating.

-----

First up was the 50-meter dash.

First up was Ida and Bakugo, and it was surprisingly tight as Bakugo and Ido are both really fast in straight lines.

Toru and Midorya were next, it was funny seeing the protagonist getting smoked by a normal girl... jk they were also close as they both trained very hard over summer.

However that's where the interesting stuff ends for this part as only Ojiro and Mina had quirks that they knew could boost themselves.

I got paired with Asui, and her frog instincts probs warned her as she was super fast running from me, but I got first anyways.

-----

Side steps were next and it was hell for me! I am a snake! I don't have legs!

But I still have to give it to Mineta with his creativity on using the balls to bounce himself.

-----

Grip strength was boring, what could you expect.

-----

Finally the last boring part was the standing long jump, as the others were just stretches and running.

For this I just floated over, however both Bakugo and Aoyama launched themselves with their quirks, show offs.

-----

Now for the most interesting part, the ball throw... which I sat out as I already did it.

Bakugo went first and exploded the ball -"SHINEI!!"- and screamed like the broody guy he is.

Ochaco got the same score as me with "inf" showing on the device and the rest followed after her, with mostly average results except Yaoyorozu who put a rocket on the ball.

Now it's time for Midorya to do the last test.

He pulled back his arm and energy started gathering in his throwing arm, "Detroit-"

'He should stop calling his moves' I thought to myself as he threw his arm into the throw.

"SMA-ash?" The throw flopped.

He looked to Izawa sensei who proceeded to scold him for being a one trick pony and injuring himself.

He looked like he was in tears at this point so I stepped in.

"I can make it so he doesn't get injured for doing what he does." I offered and Izawa glares at me.

"No, that will just enable his reckless actions." He states and I realize his point.

"Ok," I nod, "Sorry Midorya."

"It's fine, I have to learn somehow." He has a resolved look on his face as he says this.

"Now try again." Izawa urged as Midorya took his position once more.

He pulled back his arm again but there's a difference this time-

"He's using only the finger." I say to myself.

"SMASH!" He yelled as he launched the ball with only breaking his index finger.

I look to Izawa's device to see the score out of curiosity, it showed 705.3 meters, pretty good.

The class now compared the scores of the tests, it was Midorya who got last.

Looking at him, he had a smile on his face, but it was clearly forced.

However-

"I was just kidding about expelling you." Izawa said as the class fell in disbelief.

"Expulsion is a good motivator, you needed to show your bests." He said that, but I knew better, He expelled an entire class one year because he didn't approve of their scores.

The class grumbled as well however they didn't know what I knew except Mina, who I told earlier.

...

The day ended soon after with math and science following the hero course part of the day.

"Hey Hanabi!" Mina and Ochaco approached me and Toru as we were getting to leave.

"Wanna exchange contact info?" Mina waved her phone.

"Sure, I don't see why not." I agreed and took out my phone, "You too Ochaco?"

"Sure!" She quickly nodded and also brought out her phone.

"So why did you all want to become heroes?" I ask.

"Mine's not that righteous." Ochaco shook her head, "My family works construction and I want to help them."

"Not righteous? You're helping who you care about, nothing wrong with that!" I pat her head.

"Haha, she's right." Mina laughed, "I mostly want to be a hero so I could help people!"

"What about you Hanabi, Toru?" She shifted the question to me.

"I want to help those who can't help themselves and give them courage!" I say but I just came up with it on the spot, "But I mostly just want to fight strong people." I shrug.

"I see, like Mirko the rabbit hero?" Ochaco asks and I nod.

"I guess so." I look to Toru for her response.

"I want to be a hero so people can see me." This earns nods from the others, "And so I can help people, obviously."

"You two are so different, how are you sisters?" Mineta appeared out of nowhere.

"..." We look to the pervert.

"I'm adopted." I flick his forehead with my tail.

"Agh!" He fell to the ground with a bloody nose, even though I didn't hit him there, and we walk away.

I swear I heard him say something pervy as we went away though.
