Chapter 89 - Finding an Opening

The invisible Ashrik and Isaac slipped through the backside of the Blackstone Fortress. They ran across the open ground, silent yet fast. Their steps weaved between storage sheds, patrol routes and watchful guard posts.

The two men passed groups of espers and soldiers heading out for missions or going for their morning drills. Even a few ordinary survivors walked here and there on the walkways.

But not a single person looked their way. To the entire base, Ashrik and Isaac simply did not exist—as long as the power of invisibility shielded them.

Isaac whispered as they crossed a narrow path, "Keep left, someone's coming."

Footsteps approached, came from two soldiers who chatted idly about ration rotations. They seemed not in a rush to go somewhere, or to be alert with their surroundings.

Ashrik slowed his stride before dodging the soldiers. They would surely know something was wrong if he had collided with them. Isaac did the same, his breath slightly ragged.
