Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Journey to the Magic City and Auctioning the Soul Essence

After parting ways with Mu Zhuoyun, Mu Nianbing went to look for Ye Xinxia.

Because of the sheer number of survivors in the security zone, most people hadn't been assigned housing yet.

They could only pitch tents as temporary shelters amid the ruins of Bo City.

After searching for a while, Mu Nianbing finally found Xinxia sitting in a wheelchair outside a tent, her silver hair catching the soft morning light.

"Brother Nian!"

As soon as she saw him, Xinxia's eyes lit up, and she called out happily.

Mu Nianbing quickly walked over and crouched beside her.

"Xinxia, I'm planning to head to the Magic City tomorrow," he said seriously. "Come with me."

Hearing his direct words, Xinxia's face instantly flushed pink.

He wants me to go with him?

The thought of living together made her heart race, both nervous and quietly expectant.

"But… what about my father and Aunt Mo?" she asked softly. Though she longed to be with him, she couldn't help but worry about her family.

Mu Nianbing hesitated, unsure of how to answer.

Just then, Mo Qing stepped out of the tent. Her expression was weary but gentle.

"Xinxia," she said, "if you're with Nianbing, I can rest easy. You don't need to worry about us."

After everything that had happened in Bo City, Mo Qing had made peace with letting Xinxia go.

With Mu Nianbing's talent and capability, she trusted that he could protect her.

"Aunt Mo, why don't you come to the Magic City with us?" Mu Nianbing offered. "I have enough savings to rent a decent place."

He already had spirit essences to sell—once that was done, money wouldn't be an issue for a while.

Mo Qing shook her head with a faint smile. "No need. I've lived in Bo City all my life. I wouldn't be comfortable anywhere else. You two go ahead—I won't be a burden."

Seeing her resolve, Mu Nianbing didn't press further. "Then please don't worry," he said solemnly. "I'll take good care of Xinxia. I won't let her suffer any injustice."

The next morning, Mu Nianbing and Ye Xinxia boarded the high-speed train to the Magic City.

He wanted to master his Nebula Magic Weapon as soon as possible, and staying in Bo City any longer would only waste time.

Upon arrival, Mu Nianbing rented a large, well-furnished duplex apartment near Pearl Institute. Since he planned to apply for special enrollment soon, living nearby would make travel more convenient.

The apartment was spacious and elegant, complete with a carpeted living hall, a wide balcony shaded by a parasol, and even a small pool beside a reading lounge.

A crescent-shaped sofa faced a wall-sized television, and the open Western-style kitchen gleamed with new appliances.

"Brother Nian," Xinxia said as she looked around in amazement, "isn't this place a little too big for just the two of us?"

"It's fine," Mu Nianbing replied with a faint smile. "We'll grow into it."

Xinxia blinked, puzzled at first—until she caught the teasing look in his eyes. Realization dawned, and her face turned bright red.

She quickly looked away, heart pounding. Why does it sound like he's hinting at something…?

Mu Nianbing chuckled softly, then gently pinched her cheek. "Get familiar with the place and pick whichever room you like. I'll be out for a bit."

"Where are you going?" Xinxia asked, clutching his sleeve.

"I need to visit an auction house to handle a few things for cultivation," he said. "I'll be back by evening."

"Alright…" she murmured, reluctantly letting go.

After leaving the apartment, Mu Nianbing pulled up a map on his phone and quickly located the nearest auction house—about ten kilometers away.

He hailed a taxi and soon arrived before a grand building with the words "Zhao's Auction House" engraved in gold.

Mu Nianbing wasn't surprised. The Zhao family controlled numerous auction houses across the country and even held stakes in international ones.

Their wealth and influence were immense—bordering on that of a small nation.

As he entered the marble-floored hall, a polite receptionist with a professional smile approached him.

"Sir, are you here to participate in the next auction?" she asked, her tone soft but businesslike.

"I have a few items I'd like to put up for auction," Mu Nianbing replied.

"Understood," she said. "All items must be appraised beforehand, so if you—"

"Appraised first?" Mu Nianbing interrupted, slightly frowning. "You wouldn't turn away a War General-level Spirit Essence, would you?"

The woman's eyes widened. "A… War General-level Spirit Essence?"

Even though she wasn't a mage, her years working in the auction house had taught her what that meant. A single essence of that grade could sell for over twenty million!

"Please, follow me," she said immediately, her attitude shifting to respectful urgency.

She led him to a quiet room in the back, where a middle-aged man sat cross-legged at a desk, reading a ledger.

"Master Xu," she announced, "this gentleman wishes to auction a War General-level Spirit Essence."

The man looked up in surprise. "Truly?" He examined Mu Nianbing, clearly skeptical. "You don't look older than twenty. Are you certain?"

Without a word, Mu Nianbing produced the Soul Vessel. The moment the man saw it, his doubts vanished.

"You actually have the vessel…" he murmured, astonished. "Then it's genuine."

That a young mage could kill a General-level demon beast was extraordinary.

"In addition," Mu Nianbing continued, "I also have six Soldier-level Spirit Essences and a few residual souls."

The man's eyes widened further. "Six Soldier-level essences?! That's an entire year's haul for most hunter teams!"

He immediately began the appraisal, carefully testing the energy within each vessel.

Moments later, his hands froze. His pupils dilated in shock.

"This… this is a Commander-level residual soul!"
