Rory didn't want Nix worrying about her any longer.
He had fought without pause the entire day, pushing a body that had only just recovered past its limits again and again. Even without saying a word, the faint stiffness in his movements and the dull fatigue in his eyes betrayed how exhausted he truly was.
"Let's go back to the cabin," Rory said softly, breaking the silence. "Jasper called me several times earlier. I told him I'd return the call once everything here was settled."
She paused, then added in a tone that left no room for argument, "When we get back, you take a shower first. I'll talk to Jasper, then help you calm your mental state. After that, we sleep—properly. Tomorrow, we'll help everyone repair the damage together."
