Chapter 21 - Battle Atop the Hill (2)

The light spirits pulsed with less and less force.

Their golden light was inherited from their origin.

Od'Zohar, also known as the great radiance.

It is the one who guides, the one who cares and purifies.

When humanity fell ages ago due to Azoth, Od'Zohar was the only salvation.

The great star in the sky that illuminates every day.

Its light was capable of purifying the Azoth in Caelestia, allowing the city to be saved in a world in ruins.

However, there was something more. Something only Alioth could see.

That light was actually a combination of all spiritual frequencies, combined with keter, the blood of the gods.

When night fell, that light stopped being emitted. The light spirits lost their golden color, becoming a dark and ominous amalgam.

That's what really happens when you fuse all spiritual frequencies together. A cancellation is formed between equal and opposite frequencies, which create an empty point of darkness.

If you use Ka in this mixture, it adopts a silver color reminiscent of the full moon.

Though the moon didn't exist in that world. When the sun set, Od'Zohar, night fell.

The sky was illuminated only by the stars, which shone with hundreds of different colors, to prevent the planet from being plunged into darkness.

It's said that before, the stars were painted a single color, but when the great spirit of space died, the other spirits used their power to replace the stars in the sky, tinging the darkness of night with a gleaming spectacle of colors.

Both day and night are beautiful. However, there are only two unique moments in the day where you can witness both phenomena.

When night falls and when dawn breaks.

At a certain moment, just when Od'Zohar's light stops overshadowing that of the stars, the sky is tinged with a very peculiar color.

A color only Alioth could see.

A color that had been forgotten.

The original color of the stars.

Alioth had rarely witnessed that phenomenon, due to staying most of the time locked in the library.

But when he did, he was always fascinated by that beauty.

Though that day was different.

That day he couldn't afford to appreciate the stars.

"Here, you'll need a weapon," Alioth said, throwing a stick to Nora.

The girl extended her arm, catching the weapon mid-flight, though upon seeing it up close she was confused.

"Am I supposed to use this as a weapon?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.

Alioth nodded.

"Yes, it's better than nothing," the boy commented. "Besides, it's not the sword that matters, but who wields it," he added.

Nora inspected the stick again. Suddenly, her golden aura enveloped the branch, making it stretch and change shape.

Soon the branch adopted the form of a sword, becoming coal black, with reddish cracks running through it completely.

Nora couldn't help but be surprised.

"I guess you were right!" she exclaimed cheerfully, moving the sword in the air energetically, leaving an orange trail with each movement.

Alioth blinked upon seeing that.

That wasn't a normal branch. It was Lævateinn.

A branch that had received a name from Alioth.

That weapon shared destiny with the legendary sword of Norse mythology.

However, the only power it had shown was the ability to absorb thermal spirits.

But now, it had acquired a completely different form.

What had happened?

Was it because of the large amount of Ka Nora had?

Or was it related to her authority?

Alioth was very intrigued, but he couldn't afford to waste time thinking.

"Here they come again," the boy said, while seeing an immense air drill full of purple octagons approaching.

Nora nodded. She looked very confident in herself.

With a smile she raised Lævateinn, surrounded by an intense purple aura.

Around her, hundreds of silver lights began to shine, darkness spirits that twinkled as they were fed with Ka.

It was as if Nora had been surrounded by a hundred stars, a celestial veil that announced her greatness.

Alioth couldn't deny she had style.

Nora held the sword above her head, while making her Ka flow toward Lævateinn.

Upon doing so, a great column of fire was generated from the sword, and with a cry of effort, Nora brought that pillar of fire down forward.

The wind drill was enveloped in flames, being consumed instantly and making the wave of flames more potent.

It was something Alioth was aware of. Fire tends to feed on air to grow, though air also usually disperses the residual spirits fire leaves.

It's about power, and in this struggle, Nora had won.

The wave of fire moved across the ground at great speed, melting the stone in the process.

"Shit, everyone behind me!" Ronald said while invoking a thick wall of octagons in front of him.

The purple wall crashed against the blast of fire, preventing the latter from passing.

The strong flames crashed against the wall, threatening to destroy it with their power, but Ronald didn't give up. He kept making the effort to maintain that construction.

"Let me help too," Rat asked, touching the improvised shield. "Immaterial rotatory pulse!"

Upon saying those words, the shield began to spin at great speed.

The flames began to be dispersed to the sides thanks to the shield's rotation.

But it wasn't enough. The shield was beginning to crack.

"Gentle whirlwind," a voice then said behind them.

They didn't hear it. However, the wind began to spin around them.

Rat and Ronald were pushed into the air, shot upward, moving away from there.

"What the hell?" Ronald said as a current pushed him away.

"Huh?" Rat managed to pronounce as he was moved away.

"Atmospheric shield," the green tattoos shone on the boy's hands.

The wind around him began to spin violently, forming a protective dome around him.

When the flames pierced through the octagon shield, they continued advancing, enveloping the dome.

The boy could feel it. He barely had any Ka left.

The Vanir have golden blood, the blood of the gods.

This blood is condensed divine power, which serves to be able to use Devastra.

Ka is, after all, low-quality keter.

That's why the Vanir have a greater amount of Ka than someone normal. Because their blood can be converted into large amounts of Ka.

However, there's a limit to this.

And he was reaching it.

"I guess I only have one option left," he said, as the flames consumed the dome surrounding him.

The boy put his hand in his pocket, as the flames consumed him.
