Chapter 3 - Status Window

[Status Window

Name: Leonhart Porter

Age: 21

Abilities: /Time Exchange/ /Record/

[Time Exchange

Description: A shard of long-lost time. A power that obeys equivalent exchange. A year demands a year, a breath demands a breath. Only owned time may be offered. Only time may be received.]

[Record

Description: Moments remain fixed in their memory, a scene preserved in history. Allows the holder to replay any event they have personally witnessed. It does not alter events but only stores them in the mind. What is recorded can be recalled perfectly.]

Staring at the status window in front of him as he eats his fill, Leonhart was able to answer his questions that had been bugging his mind for a long time.

'According to my mother, Holders don't know what kind of powers they possess, hence they come up with the name themselves. The first generation of Holders were able to at least know the surface of their abilities because the Non-Holders faction wasn't formed just yet, due to it emerging very early.'

The situation couldn't be said to the second generation Holders, such as him, as the Non-Holder Faction created laws that made even the first generation unable to use their powers freely, even secretly.

Hence, probably all the Holders on the second generation that are currently living in hiding don't know much or anything about their abilities.

After all, Time Slip is different from Time Exchange.

'I had to die to make it work? The description is saying otherwise! But then, I guess there's no status window until the Fall happened!'

Once he was on that line of thought, Leonhart almost choked on his way to bring the food down on his throat as he made another bold conclusion.

'Wait just a moment, are you telling me that the birth of Holders and the Fall are connected? Giving us abilities to prepare once we're invaded by monsters?'

Leonhart couldn't help but raise a brow. 'What a cliché scenario for a game. I'm sure I could've done better by whoever had plotted this.'

A few seconds later, he scratched his head in annoyance due to realizing how insane his line of thinking was when the end of the world is nearing in less than a day.

"Leon. It seems you have a lot in mind."

Leonhart's gaze fell onto the side where his grandmother, Sarah, was eating.

Her hair had already turned grey, but her soft and genial face was still there.

"Uh, yes. Is it that obvious?"

His grandfather, Lloyd, answered on behalf of his wife.

"If you're acting crazy, like touching something in the air and scratching your head out of the blue, then we believe that you have a lot in mind."

Leonhart scratched his hair once more before answering the worried voices of his grandparents.

"I know you're not going to believe everything I will say now, but I time slipped."

The faces of his grandparents grew dim as they realized that Leonhart had returned to the past, and they knew that the second condition to do that was to die.

"Please! Don't think that I committed suicide or used it because I failed the test."

Leonhart bit his lips and revealed the information he had been keeping in his mind since earlier.

"Pa, Ma. Listen to me carefully. The world is ending, and the fall is coming. Everything will turn into disarray in less than a day, and there are so many things I want to do, but you guys are my priority. I have to save you two first."

I was pondering my actions the second I left the University and went home.

I can't stay on the same day when I'll continuously worry about the situation of my grandparents as the Fall is commencing.

At the same time, I couldn't just leave my classmates be massacred by the monster, knowing that it will eventually bound to happen and just left to watch it happen anyway.

That's why I was cooking up a solution.

[ [Crisis: Escape the Hansok University(ERROR)

[The Fall will start in 9 Hours in Earth's Time] ]

Watching the towering University that I had been with for almost four years, I couldn't help but feel a bit sentimental.

The memories that I had in here weren't that many, but it wasn't too few either.

It was just so-so, a typical way of what a hiding Holder should experience.

But what was the solution I came up with anyway?

It was very simple, really.

I just had to burn this school.

It didn't need to be a kind of fire where I would burn everything to the ground. I just need a reason for the students of Hanson University not to attend tomorrow's classes and to stay with their families as they find solutions to solve each of their own crises.

Tightening the knot of the mask behind my head, I entered the gates without being seen by the lazy guards who almost looked like they were about to sleep.

Running through the buildings, I sneak my way inside and go to each room I can find and start burning the curtains.

Using the lighters that I've brought from the store along the way, everything went smoothly until it didn't.

"Hey, you! What are you doing?!"

As I entered through the fourth building I was about to burn, a professor caught me doing the act and started chasing me.

It wasn't just any professor but the principal of the entire school.

"Sir Denmark…"

Sir Denmark chased me down like a mad dog while I wasn't stopping at burning everything that I ran through.

"You delinquent! Stop what you're doing! You're committing a heinous crime!"

'You think I don't know that?!'

I slowly started to get exhausted due to the fact that I exerted much more effort than I should have.

"I'm halfway close, but this seems to be enough—"

Just then, when I lost track of Sir Denmark by following me, I felt electricity coursed through my body as if I was tased by the real weapon.

It's because someone used a similar method to bring me down.

I plopped to the ground but still managed to catch a glimpse of the individual who did it.

'Was it the guards?'

But what I discovered was shocking.

"Sir…Mark?"

My homeroom professor, Mark, looked at me with a raised brow before squinting them in anger.

"That voice... Leonhart Porter?"

That was the last thing I heard before losing consciousness.
