Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: The Connection

Following the sound of the horse whip whistling into the air and then landing to create a dry crack, the carriage began to roll.

The sound of horse hooves tapping rhythmically on the stone-paved road, the carriage shook slightly then moved smoothly.

The sensation was soft but strange, completely different from the bumpiness of the primitive corpse-hauling carts, causing Alex to startle; instinctively, his hand gripped the edge of the soft velvet cushion tight.

But immediately, he became conscious of the presence of the people around him. In front of outsiders, he did not want to appear as a country bumpkin who had never experienced the world; he tried to suppress the curiosity and excitement creeping into his heart, keeping a cold expression, looking straight ahead, deliberately not turning his head to look at the scenery passing by outside the glass window, even though in his heart he really wanted to know what the world looked like through that transparent pane of glass.
