The Drake Hotel is overflowing with people I'm contractually obligated to impress. Industry executives, producers, directors. Everyone who matters in Hollywood packed into one ballroom.
And somewhere in this crowd is Chase Sterling.
I saw him arrive twenty minutes ago. Watched from across the room as people swarmed him. Shaking hands, making deals, treating him like royalty.
Because he is. At least in this world.
He owns my contract now. Owns Marcus's entire company. Owns the power to end my career with a single phone call.
I've been avoiding him all night. Staying on the opposite side of the ballroom. Making sure there are always at least fifty people between us.
But it's exhausting. Constantly checking over my shoulder. Constantly aware of where he is and where I'm not.
Ethan touches my elbow. "You okay?"
"Fine."
"You keep watching the door."
"I'm just tired." I force a smile. "It's been a long night."
"We can leave if you want."
