Chapter 3 - Pain

IN SEBASTIAN'S ROOM

The room was a disaster. Shattered glass, splintered wood, and torn fabric littered the floor as Sebastian stood in the center, his chest heaving, his fists bleeding from the force of his punches. With his broken mate bond, his healing was slow. But that pain is nothing in front of what he was feeling inside his heart. His heart was bleeding. His wolf was howling in his mind, clawing at him in a frenzy of rage and grief, wanting to get control.

"She lied to me," he growled, pacing the room. His icy blue eyes burned with anger, but beneath the fury was a raw, aching pain. "She fucking lied. How could she do this to me? To us? How could you, Evelina!!" he growled as the burning pain in his entire body was making him go crazy.

He couldn't think straight. He was feeling lost. His lover, his lifeline was gone. He doesn't like mingling with people much. He became the alpha leader of the region very young which was very stressful for him but he tackled everything because at the end of the day, he had Evelina to return to. But with her gone, he feels helpless, lost. She was his everything.

How he always dreamt of making her his Luna officially. He was even planning on holding the ceremony as soon as she returns and marks her finally. But how did this happen?

He didn't realize when a few drops of tears dropped from his eyes and he helplessly dropped to his knees. All his strength left him. All the happy memories with her were haunting him.

His gaze fell on the bed they had once shared, the place where they had whispered promises, where she had laughed in his arms. He tore the mattress from the frame with a roar, tossing it across the room. "I gave her everything. I trusted her. And this is what I get?"

His wolf snarled in response, the bond they once shared now a gaping wound. But no matter how much he tried to cling to his anger, it wasn't enough to drown out the worry gnawing at the edges of his mind.

"Wait.. she's out there," he muttered, his voice quieter now, laced with desperation. "She's very weak right now. What if rogues find her? What if—" He stopped, his fists clenching. "Damn it, why do I care? She made her choice. She doesn't love me. I…I don't care about her… I don't!" He growled as if he was trying to convince himself.

But his wolf wouldn't let him rest. The image of Evelina clutching the baby, her eyes hollow and filled with pain, haunted him. His gut twisted with fear. She's a rogue now with a newborn baby. The other rogues are out for hunting at this time. What if they attack her? What if something happened to her? What if he lost her for good?

"Fuck," he cursed, running a hand through his hair. Without another thought, he stormed out of the room, shifting mid-stride into his massive wolf form. His paws pounded against the earth as he tore into the forest, his nose following the faint trail of her scent.

The forest was dark, the air cool and heavy with the scent of pine. Evelina leaned against a tree, her legs trembling from exhaustion. Her wolf has locked herself at the back of her mind, refusing to communicate with her. The pain of Sebastian's rejection coursed through her veins, a dull ache that refused to fade. Her wolf was silent, too broken to offer her comfort.

The baby whimpered in her arms, her cries weak but persistent. "Shh," she whispered, her voice hoarse. "It's okay, little one. I've got you." She kissed her forehead, her heart aching as she fought back tears.

She looked up at the night sky, the moonlight filtering through the canopy of leaves. "Why do you hate me so much, moon goddess? Why is it always me? What do I do now?" she murmured, her voice cracking. "I've lost everything. I've lost him. I have lost my sister. Please guide me, moon goddess," she cried in helplessness.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed in her pocket, breaking the silence. She brought it out of her pocket and looked at it with a confused look on her face. She didn't recognize the number and it wasn't from her region. She fumbled to answer it, her fingers shaking. "Hello?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. She got flashbacks from that night when she lost her sister. She had gotten a call from an unknown number that day as well.

A chilling voice on the other end sent a shiver down her spine. "You won't be able to hide for long," it sneered. "We got rid of your sister, and we'll get rid of that son of a bitch as well. We won't let that filthy blood see the daylight."

Evelina's blood ran cold. "Who are you? What are you talking about?" she demanded, her voice trembling. "What do you want?"

The line went dead.

Her heart raced as she clutched the baby tighter, her eyes darting around the dark forest. She didn't have time to react before a deep growl echoed behind her. She turned, her breath catching in her throat.

She spun around, her breath hitching as a massive wolf stepped out of the shadows. Its eyes glowed with an Alpha's dominance, its sharp teeth bared in a snarl. Evelina's legs threatened to give out beneath her as the wolf stalked closer, each step deliberate and menacing.

"Who are you?" the wolf demanded, its deep voice sharp and commanding as it shifted into its human form. The man standing before her was tall and broad, his dark hair falling into piercing green eyes that scrutinized her with suspicion.

Evelina opened her mouth to speak, but the exhaustion was too much. The baby's cries grew louder in her arms as she swayed on her feet. "I…" she tried, her voice faint. But the world tilted, her knees buckling beneath her.

The man lunged forward, catching her before she hit the ground. His strong arms wrapped around her protectively as she slipped into unconsciousness, the baby's cries the last sound she heard before darkness consumed her.

The Alpha looked down at her pale, tear-streaked face, his brows furrowing. "Who are you, and why are you here?" he muttered, his voice softer now, but there was no answer. Evelina was already unconscious, her body limp in his arms.
