Chapter 3 - The Profiler

All murders have seven things in common, First a victim, second a murderer, third was a weapon, fourth was a time, fifth was a purpose.

One thing is for sure, you don't need motivation to do things. But you do need a purpose for it. Like an animal hunting its prey out of hunger or boredom or.. or many more.

It varies in many ways, showing up in different ways but always. Always ends with murder.

In my country a profiler is almost nonexistent, with lots of things going on all at once there is not one bit of an acknowledgement or even classification really.

And so a freshly graduate like me was only sent to station and office work. Like giving clearance and talking to complaints. Almost anything that requires hearing or 'court' took a very long process not just that draining for money too so not many people go to court and instead settle everything to either Barangays or Police offices.

It's commonly settled but when it comes to dead bodies it's mostly someone else's job and they don't like newbies snooping in on them.

But they do let me peek into some stuff perhaps finding me intelligent or most likely because so i can shut up on asking them about their case every time i saw them down the hall.

Like always the weather has been hot, it's april after all. It's the hot dry season.

I always talk a lot. No, I think a lot. I even talk to myself even now.

Breathe in, Breathe out and now my breathing became conscious.

It was five fifteen and I can't wait to go home to Silena, i wonder what's for today's dinner. Now I really want something with soup.

With that my shift ended and I synchronized my movement with my coworker Anthony who got the same shift as me.

"Why did you always wait for me?" Anthony asked me as we walk side by side down the hall.

"It's very awkward walking on my own" I replied to him the same reply I always give.

Shrugging his shoulders after we went pass outside the police station Anthony turned to me and said, "Look fine. You won i convince the chief to let you in"

"What?" I muttered.

"What?" Anthony said back, "You want to join the Homicide department right?"

"That's why you've been following me around" Anthony explained i try to say no but he shush me with a finger, "Don't lie. Okay It's fine but don't blame me alright?"

"Well.." I blink three times before saying, "That's great. Thank you?"

Anthony then shook my hand and left me confused. That guy really. He always confuse me.

I hate people like that always marking my move.

The whole ride back to the apartment was smooth with me not even having recollection on it only finding myself standing at the same apartment door with light peeking underneath it.

Before I could even knock, she open the door in front of me. Silena approach me with the same smile she wore everyday to me almost like a grinning cat you saw at the meme.

She said she felt embarrassed smiling in public because of it. To be honest for me she looks beautiful.

"Get in" She ushered me inside and when i got in that's when the smell registered in my nose.

The smell of chicken soup was boiling in the kitchen. I shook the bag of fried chicken I brought along the way in case she was too busy to cook.

But it seems she did cook so we just eat it for breakfast instead. I put the fried chicken inside the refrigerator before telling her what happened.

"I be moving to homicide department" I said bracing for impact.

"Really?" Silena approached me, her face breaming with joy, "Isn't that what you wanted? I'm so proud of you. What happened?"

"It was fine" I said, trying to stop the onslaught of questions she had for me. Seriously she never change whenever something happens she always turns into a human size questionnaire. Asking about how i feel? And what i plan to do about it or etc.

"Let's just eat first, okay" I said to her and the two of us prepared the table, me scooping up rise and her taking two bowls of soup.

"You know I've been thinking," I said while we ate, "You should really stop waiting for me so we cane eat together. I come home very late so it's best you eat while i'm still out"

Silena shook her head, "It's fine. Cooking and finding the right ingredients was difficult so the time you came home was the perfect time for it to be cooked.

"You never change. You don't want your meals to be premade." I told her with a smile taking a piece of meat from my bowl into hers, "You should eat more. The cook shouldn't starve"

She laughed at my words. Almost cute if it didn't sound like a hyena gasping for breath.

Hearing that sounds she make i can't help but laugh as well and the two of us continued eating like always. I don't know why whenever i'm around her i feel butterflies in my stomach.

Just as we are done eating both of us sat at the couch to watch some movies, i was busy snacking on some chocolate when she suddenly stood up and left only to come back with a wine bottle and two glasses in hand.

She shook the glass in front of me and i only nod in return the two of us toast before drinking with her leaning her head in my chest as we watch.

An hour into the movie i look at her, asleep in my embrace and for a moment i think about marrying her, a future with her.

It doesn't seem so bad. I pat her head liking the sensation of my palm running on her silky locks.

Silena for me was something out of a dream. Sometime's i don't even want to wake up.
